Encouraging voters to back additional income tax

To the editor: It has been my privilege to grow up and raise my children in Lisbon, Ohio. We as members of this community have been called upon to support our home town by voting for an additional .5% on the village income tax. Seventy-five percent of the funds raised are earmarked to increase salaries and benefits for the Lisbon Police Department. Our village police department has become a training ground for police departments in the surrounding area. Since 2017, eight trained officers have left the village department for higher pay. Support the half percent income tax

To the editor: This is an unsolicited letter encouraging Lisbon voters to support the half percent income tax increase. This tax does not affect Social Security income. Unlike a property tax that would affect every property owner regardless of age, the glory of this tax is that it is based solely on working income. Most important, 75% of collections of this added tax will benefit the budget of our local police department. To the editor: I think a lot of individuals are unaware about the MSSA Super Walk coming up on Saturday, Sept. 28, and a lot more people uninformed about who the MSSA is. MSSA stands for Multiple Sclerosis Services Agency. We are a 501(c)3 NON-PROFIT agency, providing services to those individuals living with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. JOBS Act would provide shorter-term assistance

To the editor: Thank you, Senator Portman, for authoring bipartisan legislation called the JOBS Act. The JOBS Act would allow low-income students to use Pell Grants for shorter-term training programs. Community colleges around the country have made this legislation their number one priority, because companies like Encino Energy are working with local businesses, putting together training programs that are needed to help fill in-demand jobs, such as natural gas related employment.
