To the editor: Thanksgiving is the “kick-off” to a busy season for all of us. Thanksgiving Day is followed by “Black Friday,” “Small Business Saturday,” “Cyber Monday” and “Giving Tuesday” (if there is any cash left). Charities have learned that the month of December has become a very important part of their annual fund raising efforts. As a result we all get flooded with requests in the mail from charities far and wide and it can be overwhelming to know where your dollars will help the most. Tale of Two Cities: Columbiana and East Liverpool

To the editor: Recently two separate articles were printed within days of each other about economic development in the cities of Columbiana and East Liverpool. In both cities the objective was to develop programs that would bring businesses into empty store fronts within the central business districts of these cities. In Columbiana the city has been experiencing significant growth outside of the core of the city. To the editor: First, Columbiana’s football season has some things to regret, but the game against East Palestine is not one of them. Losing a game where you were clearly the better team that night is regrettable. Losing a game to your league rival by giving up two TDs at the goal line on 4th and 10 or more is regrettable. Losing to a team 35-0 is regrettable. Scoring TDs on a team that offered little to no resistance is not regrettable. Upset with Columbiana’s beating of East Palestine

To the editor:  Despite my East Palestine roots and (friendly) bias, I proudly shared on my Facebook page the Reader's Digest story awarding Columbiana the title, "Nicest Place In America.” I'm curious whether Reader's Digest still would apply that moniker after the disgraceful actions of Columbiana's football coaching staff on Friday night.  Specifically, after leading 41-0 at halftime, Columbiana's football team went on to beat East Palestine 82-0. What is with the excessive money spent by candidate?

To the editor: Columbiana County has been my home for almost 30 years. It is a good place to live. I share life in this beautiful county with people who work hard to make a decent living and raise their families. It has not escaped my notice that much of the county is literally littered with the campaign signs from one of the candidates for municipal judge, who according to public record, has spent $338,000 (as of Oct. 24) to campaign for this judgeship — which pays only about $130,000 annually. An apology from candidate for mayor of Lisbon

To the editor: I want to apologize to the voters of Lisbon. I made a mistake last week by filing my pre-election expense report one day late to the Columbiana County Board of Elections. I am sorry; it was my mistake. I talked with Phil Richter, the executive director of the Ohio Election Commission, and he said that filing my financial report one day late is an administrative matter. My tardiness will be reviewed at a later day by the state election commission if the Columbiana County Board of Elections forwards a report, and I could be fined.
