Some information about MSSA

To the editor:

I think a lot of individuals are unaware about the MSSA Super Walk coming up on Saturday, Sept. 28, and a lot more people uninformed about who the MSSA is.

MSSA stands for Multiple Sclerosis Services Agency. We are a 501(c)3 NON-PROFIT agency, providing services to those individuals living with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. We are NOT affiliated with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Every penny we raise here, stays here, in the tri-county area! Everyone at the agency is a volunteer, where no one is paid for their time. Our office is located in the basement of the old South Range High School, now known as the Old School Marketplace, 11836 South Ave., North Lima.

We offer various programs and activities to those affected by MS, and registered with the agency, at no charge. Some examples are: adaptive aquatics programs at the downtown Y and Boardman Davis Center; support group meetings; and a holiday party in the winter and a summer pot-luck picnic. We also mail a quarterly newspaper called MS Happenings and have a loan closet. Our loan closet has wheelchairs, canes and other “aiding tools” for those who are in need. We also purchase a limited number of air conditioners each year, available on a first come first serve basis, for individuals registered with the agency.

In previous years we have held our MSSA Super Walk in Mill Creek Park, but due to the higher costs of having it there, the MSSA board decided to move the location of the walk this year to a much more cost effective venue. The Super Walk will take place on the Greenway Trail in Lisbon, with the start at the historic railway station, 232 South Market St. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with donuts, fruit and beverages, then the walk will start at 10 a.m. Participants will walk past the beautiful historic Beaver Creek, then finish, at the starting place, with hot dogs and other snacks.

So, please mark your calendars, because rain or shine the 28th annual MS Super Walk will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28! For additional questions, call the Agency at 330-533-6772. (MSSA) If you are unable to attend, but would like to contribute, we gladly accept donations at MSSA, 11836 South Ave., North Lima, Ohio 44452.

MSSA board member
