What is with the excessive money spent by candidate?

To the editor: Columbiana County has been my home for almost 30 years. It is a good place to live. I share life in this beautiful county with people who work hard to make a decent living and raise their families. It has not escaped my notice that much of the county is literally littered with the campaign signs from one of the candidates for municipal judge, who according to public record, has spent $338,000 (as of Oct. 24) to campaign for this judgeship — which pays only about $130,000 annually. An apology from candidate for mayor of Lisbon

To the editor: I want to apologize to the voters of Lisbon. I made a mistake last week by filing my pre-election expense report one day late to the Columbiana County Board of Elections. I am sorry; it was my mistake. I talked with Phil Richter, the executive director of the Ohio Election Commission, and he said that filing my financial report one day late is an administrative matter. Encouraging voters to back additional income tax

To the editor: It has been my privilege to grow up and raise my children in Lisbon, Ohio. We as members of this community have been called upon to support our home town by voting for an additional .5% on the village income tax. Seventy-five percent of the funds raised are earmarked to increase salaries and benefits for the Lisbon Police Department. Our village police department has become a training ground for police departments in the surrounding area. Since 2017, eight trained officers have left the village department for higher pay. Support the half percent income tax

To the editor: This is an unsolicited letter encouraging Lisbon voters to support the half percent income tax increase. This tax does not affect Social Security income. Unlike a property tax that would affect every property owner regardless of age, the glory of this tax is that it is based solely on working income. Most important, 75% of collections of this added tax will benefit the budget of our local police department.
