Is it only a $100 bonus?

To the editor: What seems like an insignificant amount adds up to a whole lot more for the Village of Lisbon. Council most definitely agrees we value each and every employee and appreciate their hard work they put into our village. No one contacted a single council member regarding the rejected $100 Christmas bonus for all Lisbon Village employees. I’d like to voice my concerns on the matter along with a few additional comments. — Council had not received any information prior to the meeting. The agenda item stated “Christmas Bonuses” — The bonuses would have totaled ...

Appreciated Christmas opinion piece

To the editor: We are early risers and following our morning workout at our beautiful Wellness Center here at Copeland Oaks, we return home to a sumptuous breakfast and our ritual of reading the Morning Journal. Page A4 is my favorite and I was pleased to see your annual Christmas message to all Columbiana County Newspapers (Morning Journal, Salem News, The Review) readers. As I read aloud your four-column story, my wife and I relived our youth and the magic of many Christmases from years gone by. J.D., you are a marvelous writer and as we switched back and forth reading aloud to each ...

Ensure the availability of Medicare Advantage

To the editor:  While Ohio may be known for its large population centers like Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati, there are over 2.3 million Ohio residents (https://www.ruralhealthinfo.org/states/ohio) that live outside of metro areas. As a former city council member in Wellsville, I advocated for the Ohioans that live in rural communities and saw the devastating impact when these communities got left behind in policy decisions, ...

To the editor:  You may not be aware of this but on April 16, 2013,an electrical power station in California was attacked. The press and federal government covered up the story —it was only reported by the Wall Street Journal. The assault started after midnight. Phone lines were cut and then assault rifles shot out the cooling systems of the transformers. The shooting lasted only 20 minutes and they knocked out 17 giant transformers that supplied electricity to Silicon Valley. They vanished a minute before police arrived. There was no blackout because Pacific Gas and Electric was ...

I am one of the over 6,000 men and women who build, maintain and inspect the major Class I freight railroads’ signal systems that ensure the safe movement of trains and protect the public at highway-rail grade crossings. The work of our craft is critical to the United States’ supply chain. We are currently involved in negotiations with Norfolk Southern Railroad. As a rail worker, I am covered under a National Vacation Agreement ...

County Auditor: Property reappraisal completed

To the citizens of Columbiana County: I wanted to let you know we recently completed our 2022 reappraisal which is mandated by the State of Ohio to be completed every six years (O.R.C. 5713.01.) Every property in the county was viewed by an appraiser from the appraisal firm John G. Cleminshaw, Inc. to determine each parcel’s market value. The most influential variable of the reappraisal process is comparable sales. According to the State of Ohio, 2021 sales are weighed most heavily. 2021 was a record year for sales amounts, and many people paid much higher prices compared to what ...
