Wellsville school board approves donations and field trips
WELLSVILLE – The Wellsville school board accepted several donations and approved multiple upcoming field trips at its April meeting.
During the new business portion of its meeting, the board approved the following monetary donations: Garfield Principal Fund from the Covenant Presbyterian Church for $150; Emilee Wilson from Spirit Club for $45; Daw Principal Fund from Covenant Presbyterian Church for $150; High School Principal Fund from the Covenant Presbyterian Church for $150; Garfield Principal Fund from Wellsville SOI for $50 and Golf Donation from the Wellsville Elks for $6,200.
Also at the meeting, the board approved the following field trips: Jr/Sr Choir, Ebony & Ivory and the senior class to Cedar Point on May 15; the first grade class to the Akron Zoo on May 7; the Art Club to the Akron Art Museum and Walnut Grove Park on May 14; Music/Film Study to Lincoln Park, and the Hot Dog Shoppe on May 8; Science Club/Biology -to Carnegie Science Center on May 7; the fourth- and fifth-grade students to Camp Fitch Sept. 9-11; and the fourth-grade class to Grave Creek Mound Complex, Moundsville, West Virginia on May 6.
Also under new business, the board approved the first reading of multiple NEOLA policies and a resolution to adopt the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
For the finance portion of the meeting, the board members approved the financial report, and Then and Now Certificates as presented to them, the permanent appropriations for fiscal year 2026, the employment of Marcy Haynes as interim treasurer on an as-needed basis, the 845 alignment service agreement with the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio effective July 1, 2026 and July 1, 2027 for the 2026-2027 school year.
Treasurer Maia Amato told the board members that the appropriations and certificates were updated to match the forecast and grants.
During the personnel portion of the meeting, board members accepted and approved the resignations of Logan Gardiner, music/band director, effective Aug. 24; and Tricia West (Guglielmo), intervention specialist, effective Aug. 12.
Resignations for retirement purposes were approved for Lori Klakos, effective May 31, and Candy Craig, effective Aug. 12.
The board approved the hiring of seven coaches and assistant coaches, a custodian, the renewal of multiple limited contracts, the non-renewal of all certificated and classified substitutes and the non-renewal of multiple athletic and supplemental contracts effective at the end of their current seasons.
The board members also approved a continuing contract for Valerie Reese.
Board members voted to enter an executive session to consider the employment of a public employee. Following the executive session, the board members voted to return to an open meeting with no action taken.
The Wellsville Board of Education meets the third Monday of each month at 5 p.m. in the media center at the Wellsville Jr. Sr. High School, 1 Bengal Blvd., Wellsville. The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 18.
