Former Lock 24 becomes a ‘Gathering Place’

ELKTON (WKBN) — A historic Columbiana County landmark is entering a new chapter.

A barn along Route 154 in Elkton that dates back to the 1830s is under new ownership. Most people know the property as Lock 24, but now it’s called the 1830 Gathering Place.

The building has seen many businesses come and go throughout the years. Now, owner Daniel Geisler says he’s ready for his business to be the next big thing to stay.

“The big change we’re doing here is that it’s going to be an event center,” Geisler said.

The well-known Lock 24 restaurant once called the property home, but Geisler says now it’s time to turn the page and give the historic site a fresh start.

“You know, we’re going to try out a different strategy. You know, I think the community needs a good place for everybody to get together, hang out, have a good time,” Geisler said.

He says the building will be a pub where you can get drinks and finger foods, and where the restaurant used to sit, will now be an event center.

“So we’re going to be having all kinds of events, you know, all the time with the community and even things like craft shows, those types of things, weddings, you know, if anybody’s looking to book their wedding, you know, we’ve got an amazing, beautiful property here,” Geisler said.

Geisler bought the property last fall and says transforming it has been no small task. After months of cleanup and renovations, he’s ready to welcome customers through the doors.

The Hayloft officially opens Friday with its first bike night event.

“We’ve kind of already been starting to build a good relationship with a lot of the bikers around here from the American Legion. They’ve done their poker runs and private events that we’ve had here, but we’ll be actually opening up to the public for a real bike night and celebrating that with the food trucks and deejay. Everybody out, having a good time,” Geisler said.

He’s hoping for a large turnout.

“We want people to get together and enjoy themselves and make more memories with their friends and family, and come here and hang out and have a good time,” Geisler said.

Starting at $3.75/week.
