Promoting awareness of sexual assault

To the editor: April is just around the corner. Did you know that April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, Alcoholism Awareness Month, Autism Awareness Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month? As a domestic violence services provider, the Christina House has a vested interest in promoting awareness of sexual assault. Sexual assault and domestic violence co-occur in many relationships. Studies have shown that 30 to 40 percent of domestic violence victims will also experience intimate partner sexual assault. Victims who are both physically and sexually abused are more likely to be ...

To the editor: Girl Scouts of North East Ohio would like to thank all of those who purchased Girl Scout Cookies this year, as well as our retail partners who hosted cookie booths outside their storefronts. It’s amazing what a huge impact a box of Girl Scout Cookies can have. Columbiana County is all the better for it! By participating in the largest girl-led business program in the world, Girl Scouts develop valuable skills, including goal setting, decision-making, money management, people skills, and business ethics. Against the CRA

Editor: The new Community Reinvestment Act approved by the city of Columbiana raises several significant issues. The first involves the city’s ability and intent to provide millions of dollars in tax abatements. The newly proposed triplex, rental units would receive abatements of about $90,000 per unit. If the proposed 14 units are built, the tax abatement would be around $1.2 million. Getting ...

The right stuff

Editor: Today our economy is humming along at a rate which Obama and his fellow party members told us would never occur. We were destined to be a service economy a la flipping burgers at McDonald’s, Wendy’s or Burger King. A stagnant employment rate, a sluggish economy, threats from North Korea and Iran and second-class treatment by the Chinese were here to stay in a new world order according to these nabobs of nincompoopery. Boom! Along comes Trump and the economy rockets into high gear. World leaders are listening and not looking to kick the US on the shins. The US has gone ...

Since Feb. 2, 1976, Salem Mobile Meals has completed 312,115 deliveries. We have never missed a delivery. The board would also like to commend our executive director, Sandy Blankenship, for her hard work and again, our volunteer drivers who have weathered the storm. If we can be of service, ...

Choose America

Editor: An intensifying storm looms. At its epicenter is our American culture and biblical values. The Republican establishment, Democrat Socialists, anarchists and ideological religious militants are advancing the storm front. They don’t rally as one, yet demonstrate some very striking similarities. Internally, they are like a pack of wolves fighting over their prey. As justice in truth advances the forces of opposition in resistance double down. The Republican establishment is in jeopardy of losing its “good ole boy” status quo power position and relevancy. It is threatened ...
