The elite wants to deliver you to serfdom

To the editor: For years you and thousands like you have gone to restaurants, fast food establishments, pot luck dinners, benefit dinners, food stores, buffets and food bars. All with little to no thought of by whom, where or how it was prepared. All while risking the potential abominable actions of an employee of infantile mind and filthiness of actions! You have placed your hands readily on shopping carts, counters, hand rails and eating tables having germs beyond imagination! We have quickly gone now to holding each other as essentially “deadly!” People veer from one another ...

Inmate speaks out against prison conditions

To the editor: I am writing to you as an inmate at the Elkton Federal Correction Institution. Many inmates are justifiably scared and concerned about the conditions and procedures that the Bureau of Prisons is fostering and conducting here at this and other facilities. I hope that you read this letter and do some questioning of how the BOP is handling this corona virus pandemic situation. We have been in a modified “lockdown” situation for the past two weeks (editor’s note: letter dated March 29). Every day is different. The restrictions have been increasing daily as are the ...

Not a fan of syndicated columnist Jules Witcover

To the editor: This morning, being a creature of habit, I opened my Morning Journal to page A4 and saw that you headlined in bold print another of Jules Witcover's opinion pieces. How he continues to be published by Ogden Newspapers, Inc., is a mystery to me. His comments are prejudicial to the point of dishonesty and what he brings to an intelligent subscriber of your newspaper is repulsive. Where does he get the idea that conservative Republicans, like me, are "more" interested in the economic cost of the shutdown than the cost of fighting the virus itself? This comment by Mr. ...

Reacts to Congress and Emergency Relief Bill

To the editor: I'm a 67-year-old grandpa of seven children. Semi-retired teacher and just for full disclosure, a Republican (although that party, as I knew it, has virtually disappeared) and was a never-Trumper in 2016. Like most conservatives I view all government through a prism of skepticism. But I am doing what the crisis team is telling us. Staying in as much as possible; washing hands more than I ever did in my life (somewhere in heaven my mother is smiling and say 'bout time!); and practicing social distancing. I have trusted our elected officials to be truthful and handle ...

Should consider the hungry semi drivers

To the editor: I watch these overworked truck drivers bringing in supplies on the turnpike who can’t get any hot meals. They should be able to get something good to eat. These women and men should be fed. They make them pay high gas prices and they can’t use their semis in the food lines. They won’t let them stand in line outside, either. A lot of them travel from state-to-state to feed us and help the hospitals with the sick. Stop the attacks on these great people who drive trucks! Feed them now. They are sacrificing being away from their families. Help them get hot meals ...

Thank you for supporting the Fleming House

To the editor: On Saturday, March 7 the Fleming House of Family Recovery Center in Lisbon hosted a spaghetti dinner fundraiser. The event was to assist in raising funds to benefit the women and children who reside in the housing units. Overall, the fundraiser was extremely successful, not only because of the funds raised, but the amount of community involvement and support was quite heart-warming. We would like to personally thank all of the community members who played a part in making this event a successful one. Especially our local vendors for providing food, supplies and ...
