Trump supporter: Keep your dreams strong

To the editor: Everyday this president is working to help the hospitals get their supplies. Just look what we need for New York, California and others. Why are we getting our supplies from China? Why can’t Americans make things here? All this is red tape that Obamacare put on the hospitals and nursing homes and their supplies and to force them to buy from China. He had to get rid of the regulations on everything. The president never gets any thanks for working day and night. He doesn’t take his paycheck from the taxpayers. He gives it away to help someone else. He praises ...

Not a big fan of Jules Witcover

To the editor: In reference to the letter to the editor on Thursday, April 16, by Dot Herbert in response to the letter by Ronald J. Price on April 8 regarding columns by Jules Witcover, I could not agree more that every person is entitled to their own opinions and views. But there is a huge difference between voicing an opinion and downright slander. Last I checked slander is against the law, but somehow columnists still get away with it. I was glad to finally see someone speak up against Jules Witcover. All he ever does is slander our President Donald Trump. There is a huge ...

Teacher reflects on the importance of sports and sacrifices

o the editor: Sixty years ago this month, I began my life in organized sports as a member of Isaly’s Little League team in Leetonia. Since that time, I have played, coached, refereed, announced, watched, broadcast and cheered for our kids and grandkids. I love sports. They are a big part of my life. So as you can imagine, I am really missing them in this time of pandemic. As a teacher for 47 years, I also know the importance sports play as part of the academic process. Having been a junior class advisor for my fair share of years, I know how important prom is. Of course, the list of ...

As we celebrate Earth Day, let’s preserve Little Beaver Creek

To the editor: No matter what any of us are going through right now because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is comforting to know that just about anywhere across Ohio we can still get outside and enjoy this beautiful time of year. It is a time of renewal for most of us spiritually, as well as a renewal of life itself in our natural world. This time of year I always reflect on Earth Day and what it means. On April 22 we will be celebrating an important milestone, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. On April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans — 10 percent of the U.S. population at that time ...

Food bank appreciates support of governor

To the editor: Over the past month, Gov. Mike DeWine and his administration have repeatedly responded to calls for help from food banks throughout the state. In March, Gov. DeWine deployed Ohio National Guard members when we made a plea for emergency support. Locally, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley has 26 members of the Ohio National Guard on-site helping in all aspects of food distribution in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. This week, Lt. Governor Husted announced the administration authorized $5 million in additional TANF funding to help food banks ...

Responds to recent letter to the editor

To the editor: In reference to the letter to the editor on Wednesday, April 8 by Ronald J. Price regarding his displeasure with the Morning Journal for publishing a column by Jules Witcover. He strenuously disagreed with the content of the article and chastised the Morning Journal for printing an opinion piece which apparently differed from his own point of view. Unlike Mr. Price I wish to congratulate the Morning Journal editorial staff for printing syndicated columnists from a variety of political backgrounds. As the only newspaper covering Columbiana County, the Morning Journal has ...
