Not a fan of syndicated columnist Jules Witcover

2 min read

To the editor:

This morning, being a creature of habit, I opened my Morning Journal to page A4 and saw that you headlined in bold print another of Jules Witcover’s opinion pieces. How he continues to be published by Ogden Newspapers, Inc., is a mystery to me. His comments are prejudicial to the point of dishonesty and what he brings to an intelligent subscriber of your newspaper is repulsive.

Where does he get the idea that conservative Republicans, like me, are “more” interested in the economic cost of the shutdown than the cost of fighting the virus itself? This comment by Mr. Witcover is garbage. What good does that comment do to help unite all Americans to fight the virus? I feel confident, and fear, that in his next opinion piece he will blame Trump for initiating the virus and withholding PPE product from Democrat governors. His comments upset me to the point of cancelling my subscription but since your paper does such a marvelous job of communicating local news, I always reconsider. Why a quality newspapers like yours print his prejudicial and often questionably honest or perhaps even dishonest opinions is a mystery to me, and I would guess to many of your subscribers.

Today, perhaps for the first time since WWII, we Americans need to pull together to fight a common enemy and Mr. Witcover’s opinion pieces do the opposite. His divisive commentary has no place in American journalism and especially in newspapers such as yours.

I would suggest your re-evaluate your selection of Mr. Witcover’s opinion pieces for publication.
