Sheriff lends support for county prosecutor candidate

To the editor: This letter is in support of Vito Abruzzino for county prosecutor. Vito has been a successful federal prosecutor with international prosecutorial experience. He has been a United States Justice Department prosecutor, a civil litigator, as well as an assistant law director. He has prosecuted every type of case that a county prosecutor would prosecute. This county is lucky to have a candidate with this kind of military and civilian knowledge under his belt to run for such an important position. I believe that Vito Abruzzino is one of the most highly qualified prosecutor ...

‘Impressed with ‘by-the-book judge’

To the editor: I have been practicing law in the Mahoning County Court No. 3 in Sebring, Ohio for nearly 40 years. Three judges of that court have been removed from office for criminal activity and another due to his bailiff’s criminal conduct. All were appointed by the ruling Democratic party bosses in Youngstown. Two are still in prison. Sebring’s new judge, JP Morgan, impresses me as a by-the-book judge. He is respectful and patient with citizens, makes sure they understand their rights, and strictly follows the law. He has brought respect for the court back to Sebring. I would ...

Former Election Board member expresses views

To the editor: Much is being made in the race for county prosecutor of John Gamble’s so- called “experience”. Well let’s examine his “experience” as it relates to recent headline news reports. John Gamble has been fined by a visiting judge for “willful contempt” and was threatened with jail time, not ten years ago, but a few months ago. Good “experience”? John Gamble has had to have another visiting judge assigned to a case filed against him by the Attorney General of Ohio for violating the Hatch Act, knowingly soliciting civil service police officers to violate ...

Mayor urges support of county park district levy

To the editor: Who likes taxes? I certainly don’t, but I am willing to make an exception for the Columbiana County Park District’s 0.25 mil levy on the Nov. 3 ballot. This levy— which would cost the owner of a $50,000 homeowner $4.50 per year, or two coffees at Dunkin Donuts — will allow the park district to maintain, improve and expand the Greenway Bike Trail and its two main parks at Hellbender Bluff and Scenic Vista. The Park District currently operates and maintains the trail and the parks with only three part-time employees. The district’s only annual funding is $15,000 ...

Neglected properties concern neighborhood coalition

To the editor: I am writing on behalf of our neighborhood coalition to bring attention to a serious issue that is going on with property tax delinquencies with East Liverpool, My neighbors and I work very hard to keep our neighborhood looking nice and do our best to keep our homes and yards well maintained. With the mayor’s leadership in the city, things are really starting to turn in a positive direction, but abandoned homes, blight and declined property values are issues that need to be resolved and with leadership from county officials. Unfortunately there are over 1,750 ...
