Mobile Meals needs help

To the editor: Mobile Meals of Salem, Ohio Inc. has delivered over 6,500 meals since it began in 1976. Mobile Meals has never failed to deliver at all because of its caring volunteer drivers. With winter coming and some drivers heading south, we are in need of additional, caring individuals who can give us two hours of their time a month. You can volunteer for as many hours a month as you are available. Your pay? The smiles of the client as you deliver a hot and cold meal to them. If available, please call 330-332-2160. Vote ‘Yes’ for Columbiana County Park District Levy

To the editor: Although I have only been on the Columbiana Park Board for several months, I have long been aware of the benefits of the Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail, Scenic Vista Park and Hellbender Park in Madison Township. In fact, I have been riding the Greenway Trail since 2000 as well as other dedicated bike trails in the eastern United States. I can say without fear of being contradicted that our Greenway is the finest and most scenic of any of the trails I have experienced. Like anything of quality, our trail and the other parks need ongoing care and improvement in order ...

Urges county residents to support parks levy

To the editor: On November 8, the Columbiana County Park District will seek voter approval of a 0.35 mill levy that would cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 approximately $12.25 per year. I would urge all county residents to vote for this levy. One dollar a month is a small price to pay to help the Park District maintain, improve and expand the Greenway Trail and its two main parks — Scenic Vista and Hellbender Bluff. These facilities are used by thousands of county residents each year. The Park District currently operates and maintains the trail and the parks with only ...

Board seeking support for cemetery levy

To the editor: Picturesque in its setting of rolling hills and slopes, historic in its name of the village, timeless in its purpose, the Village of Lisbon has a well-known and respected cemetery. Through the years, many have commented upon this beautifully maintained site. However, the cost of this rises with the decades. On the November 8th ballot, there will be both the perpetually renewed levy and a small, new levy —these are deliberately as minimal as possible. Those responsible for maintaining the cemetery include the individuals who staff the office, supervise the work, and ...

Why should strained families back WB Schools Levy?

To the editor: Once again, taxpayers in the West Branch School District are being asked to support a levy that will add additional taxes to our already strained family budgets.  Inflation has impacted all of us.  Inflation is often referred to as the “Hidden Tax” leaving us poorer by reducing the purchasing power of the dollar and decreasing the value of our savings.  I find the insensitivity that is being shown by the West Branch administrators unconscionable.  This is not the time to ask the citizens of West Branch to pile on more taxes as we struggle to cope with profligate ...

Past, present, and future of The Lisbon Cemetery

To the editor: I am writing on behalf of those that we have lost and in hopes of securing a peaceful and safe resting place for our loved ones at the Lisbon Cemetery in the future. Having lived here all my life and experiencing the loss of many friends and family over the years, it gives me peace of mind knowing their memories will not be forgotten. It makes me proud to have one of the nicest final resting places when that time is upon us. It seems that it is getting harder and harder these days to take care of the cemetery grounds with the increasing costs for personnel, equipment, ...
