Board seeking support for cemetery levy

1 min read

To the editor:

Picturesque in its setting of rolling hills and slopes, historic in its name of the village, timeless in its purpose, the Village of Lisbon has a well-known and respected cemetery. Through the years, many have commented upon this beautifully maintained site. However, the cost of this rises with the decades. On the November 8th ballot, there will be both the perpetually renewed levy and a small, new levy --these are deliberately as minimal as possible.

Those responsible for maintaining the cemetery include the individuals who staff the office, supervise the work, and work hard in the day-to-day operations. Complementing them is the Cemetery Board giving generously of their time and resources to keep the operation sustained. And there are the donors who add to the treasury. Currently, these minimal levies are needed just to keep the cemetery functioning.

The Board is asking for the support of the community voters so that Lisbon may continue to maintain this special cemetery. As time passes, it will be the familiar, final resting place of the village's citizens. Please consider the importance of a "yes" vote for the Lisbon Cemetery.
