— Officers responded to the 400 block of South Union Avenue at 2:36 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a foul odor. Officers checked the area and the only odor observed was the strong smell of a skunk.
— Officers responded to Speedway at 11:48 p.m. Monday for a reported juvenile problem. The caller advised two very young female juveniles were out at the store with no adult. Officers located the juvenile inside the store, confirming they were alone, and learned they were 11 and 10 years old, respectively. They were transported home and released to a parent, due to the curfew violation. It was apparent that the juveniles had snuck out and the parents had no idea they were gone.
— Officers on patrol in the area of Roosevelt Avenue and East Third Street at 9:43 p.m. Monday conducted a routine registration check on a vehicle, which showed the plates to be expired and the registered owner to be suspended. Officers conducted a traffic stop, speaking with the female driver who was not the registered owner and found the woman, Deanna Thompson, 44, Salem, not to have a valid driver’s license and issued them a citation for no operator’s license. Upon identifying the male passenger, Samuel Koons, 54, Salem, officers found he had an active warrant out of Columbiana County and took him into custody, transporting him to the Columbiana County Jail. Kaiser Towing was contacted and responded to impound the vehicle.
— Felix Velasquez, 20, Salem, was cited for improper backing after his vehicle attempted to back out of a private driveway in the 400 block of South Lundy Avenue and struck a vehicle driven north on South Lundy by James Weber, 72, Salem, at 8:09 p.m. Monday. No injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Euclid Street at 7:41 p.m. Monday for a report of a possible stolen phone. The caller advised her son was swimming at the Centennial Park Pool and his phone had disappeared; however, she tracked the phone to the address in question and attempted contact, but nobody was home. Officers contacted the homeowner, and the phone was in her nephew’s bag. It appeared to be a mistake and no charges were filed for theft.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of West State Street at 6:39 p.m. Monday for a wellness check on a male juvenile. The caller advised an adult man was seen yelling at the juvenile and found it to be excessive. Officers spoke with the adult and discovered the juvenile was not listening and almost ran out into traffic. Officers observed the juvenile and did not find there to be any issues.
— Officers responded to the area of Southeast Boulevard and Kennedy Street at 4:38 p.m. Monday for a report of solicitors in the area. Officers checked the area but were not able to locate anyone in the area.
— Officers responded to the area of Poolside Drive at 4:16 p.m. Monday for an unknown problem. Officers spoke with a woman who advised her mother passed out due to a medical issue. The individual’s daughter was on scene and had contacted EMT directly. Officers stood by until EMT arrived.
— Officers spoke to a man at the police department at 3:57 p.m. Monday for a report of fraud. The man advised that someone opened a Verizon account in his name, and that he’d already contacted Verizon and needed a report on file.
— Preston Gesaman, no age or address listed, was cited for assured clear distance ahead after his eastbound vehicle on East Pershing Street struck the rear of a vehicle whose driver’s name was not listed at 2:53 p.m. Monday. The other driver was transported by the fire department.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Third Street at 12:11 p.m. Monday for a stolen bicycle report. The caller advised an unknown person had stolen his bicycle off his front porch sometime overnight. The bicycle was a red mountain bike with black tires and a white white-wall stripe.
— Officers responded to the area of Brooklyn Avenue and East Third Street at 7:22 a.m. Monday for a report of wires down. Officers found they were cable wires and removed them from the roadway.
