Salem
— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Second Street at 1:54 p.m. Wednesday for a reported theft complaint. The caller advised that a man has been dumping trash into their business dumpster. Officers were able to contact the person and advised them to cease the dumping or charges will be brought upon them.
— Officers spoke to a woman by phone at 9:46 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a possible scam. The woman advised that she had received a phone call from someone claiming to be a Medicare provider, that knew her personal information. Officers advised the woman of her options and that a police report would be made.
— The school resource officer responded to Reilly Elementary at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a male student causing an issue on the bus and in the school. Officers and school administration stood by until his behavior changed.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Sharp Avenue at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised someone was putting their trash in her bin after she put it out to the curb. Officers were able to identify the person, advising them of the complaint and that she could be criminally charged if she continued.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 9:19 p.m. Thursday after receiving a call from a man who sounded lethargic and mumbling about needing help, but were unable to find the man in question. The man called back at 9:38 p.m. and officers were able to determine his location in the 900 block of East State Street, finding him lying on the ground. Medical personnel responded and the man was transported to the hospital for treatment.
— Officers responded to a 2700 block East State Street business at 9:09 p.m. Thursday in reference to two juveniles riding a wheelchair belonging to the hospital through the parking lot. Officers spoke with the two juveniles who admitted they found the wheelchair on the sidewalk and were riding it through the parking lot. They were told to return the wheelchair and not take items that did not belong to them.
— A Prospect Street resident reported at 9:04 p.m. Thursday he met someone online who began requesting money and making allegations against the resident after he sent the person some money. The resident was advised to cease contact with the person because it was a scam.
— Officers responded to Salem High School at 7:51 p.m. Thursday where a caller reported a juvenile issue during a wrestling match with West Branch High School in which the Salem students were causing a disturbance and the crowd was about to get out of hand. Officers made all the students disperse once the match was over and stood by until all the West Branch students and parents had left the property.
— Officers responded to a 200 block West State Street business at 5:45 p.m. Thursday in reference to multiple people including juveniles who had possibly stolen merchandise from the store. Employees said they will check security footage further, but wanted the people trespassed from the business. All the people involved were told not to return and the parents of the juveniles were advised of the situation.
— An officer responded to the east-west alley behind the 300 block of West State Street at 4:06 p.m. Thursday in reference to a large hole in the roadway. An employee of a nearby business reported someone had been walking through the alley when they stepped on a storm grate, which broke and collapsed, causing the person to fall into the hole. The employee said the person appeared to suffer at least minor leg injuries, but left the scene before the officer arrived. The officer found the storm grate had broken away from deteriorating concrete and that the business had placed a temporary barricade at the opening. The traffic and safety department was contacted to erect barricades until a more permanent solution could be found.
— Darius X. Ruffner, 19, Salem, was cited for failure to yield from a private drive following a two-vehicle crash in the 700 block of Franklin Avenue at 3:48 p.m. Thursday in which he was attempting to back his vehicle out of a private drive and struck an eastbound vehicle driven by Kayla M. Julian, 30, Salem. No injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 1:42 p.m. Thursday in reference to a verbal dispute at a business. Officers spoke with a woman who said a man would not leave her alone. The man was advised to leave the area.
— A patrolling officer at 1:33 p.m. Thursday conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Jennings Avenue in which the driver admitted to having marijuana vapes on his person and in the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed the contraband, which was seized and destroyed. The driver was given verbal warnings for multiple moving violations.
— An East Fourth Street resident reported on station at 11:45 a.m. Thursday explicit photos showing up on her Facebook page. An officer advised her of her options.
