New Waterford to sell its ambulances

NEW WATERFORD — The village has decided to sell its two ambulances.

Council this month approved a motion to put the ambulances up for sale by sealed bid.

Village Mayor Shane Patrone said the ambulances were originally purchased from funds used for Fire and EMS and therefore any money received from their sale will go back into those funds.

The ambulances are no longer needed due to the village halting its EMS services for now due to lack of funding and manpower.

The decision to temporarily suspend the ambulance service was made by council in April.

In other matters during the meeting, council also passed an emergency resolution allowing for an eighth addendum to the 50-year lease in place for the purchase of water from the Lindsay Wells.

Patrone explained that the contract was originally entered into between the village and Lindsay Farm around 1986.

“It was a 50 year agreement with a clause that they can receive a 5 percent increase every five years,” he said.

The increase will not affect rates for village residents.

“The only increase is an increase on the amount the village pays for water to the farm. The village only pumps a portion of the water it needs from the farm, so the cost is not enough to warrant a residential increase,” he said.

There is about 10 years left on the agreement.

In other matters, council also approved a motion to spend $500 on the purchase of fish to stock the pond for the July 4th fishing tournament, and a motion to update the holiday schedule to match the federal holidays.

Patrone said the schedule hasn’t been updated in 25 years.

Also passed were routine housekeeping items pertaining to local government fund distributions and the budget.

Patrone also said he was pleased that Columbiana County commissioners selected a New Waterford company to do the work on the East Palestine Train Depot.

Dynamic Structures of New Waterford was selected for the renovation project.

“I’m glad they chose a local company, and those funds will stay in the county. I’m sure Dynamic Structures will do a great job for the residents of East Palestine,” Patrone said.

Starting at $3.75/week.
