United Local coach shares plans for team room for female athletes

HANOVERTON — A United Local High School coach has unveiled plans for a dedicated team room for girls’ athletic programs, with a separate locker room for visiting teams. Girls Basketball Coach Cory Leek presented plans to the United Local Board of Education in July and August. According to the minutes of the July meeting, Leek said the plan is to convert the current girls’ locker room into the dedicated team room. Former police chief waives right to preliminary hearing in domestic violence case

LISBON — Former Liverpool Township police chief Jayson Jackson waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday, with his case for fourth-degree felony domestic violence bound over for consideration by the Columbiana County Grand Jury. Jackson, 53, Campground Road, Wellsville, appeared briefly before county Municipal Court Judge Danielle Menning for the latest case. Sheriff’s Office — A woman from Hillside Drive, Butler Township, reported at 9:36 p.m. Saturday that she’s in the state of Florida and her estranged husband entered her residence through the outside basement door and turned off the security camera while her 15-year-old son was at the residence by himself and locked himself in his bedroom. Upon arrival, deputies were advised by a neighbor that the man left before deputies arrived. September and October events at Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center

EAST LIVERPOOL – The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center has announced the following activities for September and October: Saturday, Sept. 5 from 1 to 2 p.m. – Ohio School of Falconry. The Ohio School of Falconry will be set up in front yard of the Wildlife Education Center. Joe Dorian will demonstrate how the birds fly and capture their food and talk about each bird. County engineer's office still look for salt solution for the winter

LISBON — Columbiana County Engineer Bert Dawson said his department is still working on a salt issue after receiving no bids for sodium chloride rock salt for the upcoming winter. The bid opening was set for Aug. 5, but instead of bids, the department received three letters from companies who had been invited to bid, all saying they were unable to submit bids, including Morton Salt, Cargill and Compass Minerals.
