Hopple leads YSU women ROCHESTER, Mich. — Freshman Maggie Hopple’s high finish in the 1,500 meters Sunday helped the Youngstown State University women’s track team capture its fifth Horizon League outdoor championship in six years. Hopple, a former Salem High School All-Ohioan, finished fourth in the 1,500 meters in a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 33.56 seconds at the Elaine Leigh Track and Field Complex. ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Beaver Local junior Landon Wheatley and Oak Glen junior Orien Bone won individual events at the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Championship finals on Saturday. Wheatley, the indoor state champion, won the boys high jump by clearing 6-foot-6 at Red Devil Stadium. He repeated as the Columbiana County champion on Thursday. SALEM — Beaver Local junior high jumper Landon Wheatley and Salem senior long jumper Lucas Adams were at the top of their game at the 122nd Columbiana County Track and Field Meet on Thursday.
