YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State sophomore Krista Perry placed at the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the the Covelli Sports Complex on Friday afternoon.

Perry, a former Crestview High School standout, was third out of 15 throwers in the women’s discus with a toss of 140-feet-3 on her final attempt. It was her fourth throw over 130 feet.

Milwaukee senior Lauren Lietzke threw 148-7 on her final attempt to overtake YSU sophomore Molly Radcliff, who was second (146-6).

Horizon League action resumes at Youngstown State at noon Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday.

Tribelo, Jones top Indians

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Southern Local threw its weight around at the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Cal Griffin Track and Field Championship on Thursday.

Junior Gavin Tribelo was first in the Class 1A/2A boys shot put (49-feet-8) and discus (132-4), while freshman Maddy Jones was first in the girls discus (111-3) and second in the shot put (30-7). She was 6 inches behind Hundred senior Leah Delaney.

The top four finishers in each event earn a return trip on Saturday to the championship run, which is where all places and scoring will be determined.

Junior Logan Redfern topped Southern runners as he was third in the boys 1600-meter run (4:55.64), third in the 3200 run (10:26.06) and joined juniors Evan Haught and Seth Hawk and sophomore Logan McCartney on the third-place 3200 relay team (9:29.90).

Optimist Meet on Saturday

AUSTINTOWN — The 42nd Optimist Track and Field Meet will be held Saturday at Falcon Stadium.

Action starts at 9:15 a.m. with the finals in the girls and boys 3200-meter run, boys shot put, long jump and pole vault and girls discus and high jump.

Fifty-two schools are entered, including athletes from United, Crestview, Minerva, West Branch, South Range and Western Reserve.
