Editor: I am the executive director of the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce and I have lived in Lisbon all my life. I truly believe in our town and I try hard to promote it. This week I will be taking a couple of new people around who are interested in starting a new business in our historic village. We have seen many businesses come and go. We also have some businesses that have been around as long as I can remember, but we must support them. They need our business to keep them here. We must think of Lisbon first. Editor: Colorful Christmas lights lining Main Street reflect in the beautifully decorated storefronts to be enjoyed by all traveling to the local high school. It’s Friday night and the high school gymnasium is filled with enthusiastic fans ready for a basketball game between two local rival teams. Editor: Over the holiday, I had the pleasure of visiting Bye & Bye Hardware, a cornerstone business of Lisbon’s historic downtown. Adding to the charm of the painted tin ceilings, swinging ladder shelves and helpful employees who have known my family for years were homemade cookie trays, punch and the smell of candles burning. This quaint and cozy feeling can only be felt in these family-owned businesses in the village where I’m proud to have grown up. Postal praise­

Editor: I marvel at how expeditiously our postal department moves the hundreds of million pieces of mail and packages during the Christmas season. When I was a boy growing up in East Palestine, I remember the mailman delivering my official Gene Autry sheriff’s badge, which I had sent for along with a Kellogg’s Cornflakes box top and 25 cents. She wants blood

Editor: I served on East Palestine council or about 20 years, so I know that it is a thankless and difficult job. Usually I try to support council because I am thankful that they will give their time to serve the community of East Palestine. Their action on Dec. 27 regarding the park board, is not something I can support. Larry and Sandy Wales have faithfully served on the park board for years. Editor: To tear down the 200-year-old Taste of Coun-try/Pine Tree Inn/Hanna property is a slap in the face to a community that has pride in its historic uniqueness and three-brick deep buildings. It is not uncommon that when a company moves into an historic town, they show a commitment to the future of said town, and a promise from Discount Drug Mart that they are here to stay by not tearing down, but readapting and enlarging said building, if need be.
