No difference

Editor: Since Roe vs. Wade, well over 58 million mothers have aborted. No wait, let’s tell it how it is, over 58 million mothers have murdered their child. An unborn child is not like a caterpillar; it is a beautiful, innocent human being, before and after birth. The only difference between killing your child three months before birth and three months after birth is six months. Larry Adkins East Liverpool

Remembering Pop

Editor: I was extremely pleased that the Lou Holtz Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame has finally decided to recognize Carl “Pop” Werner. However, I feel the need to expand upon the biography that was recently printed in the paper about Pop. He was so important to many people of this community and touched many lives with his words and actions. Pop taught us respect and the feeling of accomplishment. Do you remember the first time you climbed the rope to the top of the gym ceiling? He taught thousands of kids and adults to swim. He taught us pride. Do you remember swimming the length ...

And Charlie, too

Editor: A good man, Charlie Carlisle, went to his eternal reward recently. I was so surprised there was no writeup (even a paragraph) about the former Lisbon police chief. After devoting more than 30 years to our great village, you would have thought this man deserved at least a paragraph. You read all sorts of things in letters to the editor, but nothing about when a good person, who deserves a good writeup, is gone. Why is this? When I told my son about him he said, “Mom, he was a good person. Maybe, if it wasn’t for him, I would not be the person I am. He cared.” As a teen ...

Meter math

Editor: Does anyone in favor of metered parking own or operate a downtown business? How would you feel if you owned a business, and in one month, had seven customers say they would no longer buy from you because of the $10 parking sting if they spend a few extra minutes shopping in your establishment? Multiply that seven customers a month times 12 months, and how many have you lost now? When those businesses fold, no one will be paying taxes to the village, but rather to Center Township. One of the arguments is that everyone who works at those businesses will park there. We ...

No need for a third

Editor: It is a shame that our history is being destroyed. History is important and should be preserved. Our whole county is rich in history and could be a busy area for travelers and history buffs bringing in tourist dollars for the county. We have a number of historical buildings and the historical facts behind them in this county. Why are we keeping all this a secret and destroying these buildings? We need businesses in the downtown area and should capitalize on our history. Lisbon is the county seat and should not be a ghost town. Even at Christmas time, it is the ...

The Morning Journal welcomes readers’ contributions for inclusion in the Letters to the Editor column. All letters must be signed (a typewritten name will not suffice) and must include a full address and telephone number for verification. Letters should be typewritten and be 500 words or less. Handwritten letters of 25 words or less may be considered if the handwriting is legible. Longer letters, however, must be typewritten. Letters which drastically exceed the word limit may be rejected outright. It is not the responsibility of the newspaper to edit them to conform to length. No ...
