Thankful for generosity of a Salem family

To the editor: On December 24, I was shopping a local super market (Aldi) with my sister. We were buying a few groceries for our elderly parents. While shopping and looking at all the holiday goodies and checking for deals I heard a man’s voice say “sir, sir, sir...” I was not paying attention and was pushing my cart and heard it again so I stopped. Figuring it was a store clerk I looked up and dang it was a policeman. I was sort of confused as to why he was asking me to stop. But then I remembered our mom is very ill with late-stage cancer and is on hospice and I thought, ...

Welcoming the New Baby

To the editor: A new baby is always a welcome joy to the family — the innocence, the helplessness and the noise — are memories parents hold in their hearts forever. Can you imagine being Mary and Joseph? All they wanted to do was to be married and have a life together. But God, the almighty Father, had other plans for them. Mary, a virgin (a word lost in today’s society) and Joseph, a righteous man (another lost word) were told that they would be the parents of HIS only Son and they would call him Jesus. He will be the Saviour, the Messiah, the ONE who will die for the ...

Where are our political leaders?

To the editor: I have seen tremendous support and love shown to the nurses of East Liverpool City Hospital from the community. But their support has made blatantly clear the absence of one very influential group. Where are all our political leaders? Their silence is loud and clear. They are choosing to be silent on supporting our essential workers, who work for a healthier community at the risk of their own health, during a pandemic. East Liverpool City Hospital is also one of the county’s largest employers. Our elected officials tout working with businesses, doing what’s best ...

We need to get our system correct and secure

To the editor: Honest elections are tantamount to a democracy. The problem with our system is that all 50 states can have different systems for you to cast and count your vote, and they should since it involves that states officials and representatives. The only exception is for President of the U.S., which is the sole federal representative. Yes, your U.S. Congressmen are federal, but they are representing people of that state. I would hope you are tired and frustrated with hanging chads and all the past controversies over all the past presidential elections. We need the same uniform, ...

Nurses are heroes and essential to our communities

Nurses are heroes and essential to our communities To the editor: One of the most monumental figures in my life is my Auntie Mar. I was the youngest of five and was being raised by a single mother. My Auntie Mar was a superhero in my life in helping buy school clothes for five kids, sending cards for every holiday, and taking us to the movies. My super hero was also a nurse. My Auntie Mar retired after being a registered nurse for 46 years. Now, my sister is a nurse, and I am a nurse. Some of the best friends I have in this life are nurses. Nurses are deemed the “Most Trusted ...
