Primary election voters support majority of levies

To the editor: Voters across Ohio approved 68% of the school tax issues on the 2021 primary election ballot. The passage of 50 of 73issues marked a small uptick from the 2020 primary election, when voters approved 63 of 99 school tax issues for a passage rate of 64%. Fifty percent of new school tax requests were approved Tuesday, May 4, with 20 of 40 issues passing, an increase from 2020. In last year’s primary election, voters approved 20of 53 new tax issues for a 38% passage rate. Flag — and our country in need of repair To the editor: While stopped at the traffic light of Park Way and Smith Ferry Road I happened to view our nation’s flag on display in the yard of a home on the corner. As I looked at the flag I could not help but think that this is how our nation is today. Although the colors of the flag are visible, it is very torn and in sad condition. To the editor: Some young men in our community are missing out on important opportunities by accidentally breaking the law. As a Selective Service citizen board member, I feel a responsibility to say something. The law says all young men must register with Selective Service when they turn 18. But across the country one out of 10 young men don’t register. Research shows that the majority of the time, they simply don’t know they have to. Saddened by all the trash in our area

To the editor: What happened while I was gone living my life in various places across the United States? What happened to my beloved Columbiana County? I have always been and still am proud of where I was born and grew up. However, I am deeply saddened by the enormous amounts of trash I see discarded along various highways and ditches. A recent story on the local news mentioned it was the Ohio Department of Transportation who is responsible for cleaning up our freeways while at the same time performing snow removal and endless repairs.
