To the editor: The recent article announcing the inclusion of our Columbiana County Port Authority in the creation of the Mid-Ohio Valley Port District is tremendous news for our region. In our ever evolving statistics-driven business world, we — Columbiana County — are ideally located with us bordering the West Virginia Panhandle and Western Pennsylvania, for growth in interstate commerce and manufacturing. To the editor: When reading the Our Side column in the June 26-27 weekend edition headlined “Employers should be allowed to run their own businesses,” I was disgusted. I have heard this debate over requiring the vaccine so it wasn’t completely surprising. But let us face facts people: requiring vaccines is far from new. Back when I was a child we had to have certain vaccines before we could start school. This was not to be mean. Realizing how fragile our country has become

To the editor: July 4th brings out the best in American patriots. But as I reflected on how marvelous our country is, it also reminded me of how fragile we have become. While watching the evening news a few nights ago, I said to my wife Beverly, “I like that guy but I don’t trust him.” I was referring to a politician being interviewed on live TV. Bill supporting right of victims important to Ohioans

To the editor: House Bill 343, which offers updates to crime victims’ laws in our state, was introduced by Representative Andrea White. I am a proud co-sponsor of the bill. HB 343 presents long overdue language that would implement the 2017 Constitutional amendment called Marsy’s Law into state code. To the editor: I was quite surprised at the title of the recent “Our Side” editorial (may 28 -“Bill Aims to Hide the Truth from Ohio’s Students”) regarding proposed legislation limiting the teaching of certain concepts in Ohio’s public schools. The actual language of this bill (Ohio HB 344) , which is readily available on the internet (the language in question can be found on pages 9-12), can and should be read and Ohio citizens. Nurses want change

To the editor: Every year, between May 6 and 12, National Nurses Week recognizes the important work of nurses. As a local nurse, it’s nice to receive the recognition. A pat on the back here, a pizza party there, and maybe little trinkets that attempt to say, “thanks for all you do.” While I am appreciative, every year I feel let down. Why? Because what nurses really want for Nurses Week is change. Real, meaningful change that secures a better future for our profession.
