Flag — and our country in need of repair To the editor: While stopped at the traffic light of Park Way and Smith Ferry Road I happened to view our nation’s flag on display in the yard of a home on the corner. As I looked at the flag I could not help but think that this is how our nation is today. Although the colors of the flag are visible, it is very torn and in sad condition. Yet is was waving as best it could as the wind blew. This flag says I all.... the country and this flag both need repaired! PAUL HILL, East Liverpool

To the editor: Two editorials in your April 13 issue caught my eye. Diane Dimond comments entitled “Readers to Politicians: You’re not listening!” And Tim Graham’s “Green fraud and climate lockdown.” First, Diane Dimond. I frequently write and call my three representatives: Rob Portman, Ohio Senator; Sherrod Brown, Ohio Senator; and Bill Johnson, Ohio District 6 Congressional Representative. Guess what? To the editor: It is humbling to look back over the past year, and as I take stock of what our employees have overcome and achieved during a pandemic, I can only glow with pride for our people and our organization. Very early on, we instituted strict protocols to ensure the safety of our employees, customers and the community at large. Register with the Selective Service

To the editor: Some young men in our community are missing out on important opportunities by accidentally breaking the law. As a Selective Service citizen board member, I feel a responsibility to say something. The law says all young men must register with Selective Service when they turn 18. But across the country one out of 10 young men don’t register. Research shows that the majority of the time, they simply don’t know they have to. Saddened by all the trash in our area

To the editor: What happened while I was gone living my life in various places across the United States? What happened to my beloved Columbiana County? I have always been and still am proud of where I was born and grew up. However, I am deeply saddened by the enormous amounts of trash I see discarded along various highways and ditches. A recent story on the local news mentioned it was the Ohio Department of Transportation who is responsible for cleaning up our freeways while at the same time performing snow removal and endless repairs. To the editor: With reference to your Tuesday, March 9 editorial page, please note the following: “Normal governing has returned?” Jules Witcover, my favorite left-leaning, progressive, myopic totally Democrat columnist, has proclaimed Biden’s first 48 days or so as “normal governing.” The only thing I see normal about it is the media giving Biden, a Democrat, a free ride.
