And another response to the same letter

To the editor: My letter is in response to a letter to the editor sent by Judith Wootten, published September 20. She wanted us all to know that she was “amazed” at comments made at a county health department meeting by an advisory board member, Tim Novak, who spoke out in concern of potential vaccine mandates.  I believe the word Wootten was looking for was: insulted. That’s her actual problem with Mr. Novak, since he didn’t regurgitate the same asinine rhetoric that she has been programmed with over the last 18 months. Her closing paragraph stated: “If people choose not to ...

An open letter to the residents of Lisbon

As Chief of the Lisbon Police Department, I want you to know that I am proud of my officers and my department. They care about this town and those who live in it. They take their oath “to serve and protect” seriously. For this reason, in 2019 I asked to meet with acting Mayor Gallo, village council and Fiscal Officer Tracey Wonner to discuss ways the village could generate more money. We were paying our officers so little that they were leaving Lisbon and taking better paying jobs on surrounding forces. In our meeting, we talked about ways to have the money to increase wages for ...

Amazed by County Health Department story

To the editor: I was amazed to read the story about the Columbiana (County) Health Department Advisory Council meeting in Tuesday’s (September 14) Salem News. A member of this group, Tim Novak, is quoted as saying that I should not be angry with him if he doesn’t get the COVID vaccination because he’s not angry with me because I received it. If I get vaccinated, I cannot hurt him. If he does NOT get vaccinated, he can hurt me and many others in the general population by spreading COVID. If he contracts the virus, he might need to be hospitalized on a ventilator. If he had the ...

Not a big fan of U.S. Rep. Johnson

To the editor: During his so-called “telephone town hall” on Tuesday, September 7, Rep. Bill Johnson lied profusely and engaged in his customary fear-mongering. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to listen to the whole meeting because I had a conflicting appointment and had to leave the call early. But in the short time I was on the call, I heard Johnson rant and rave and spew misleading information about Afghanistan, abortion, the Green New Deal, and school vouchers. First, Johnson tried to blame President Biden for the entire Afghanistan fiasco, apparently forgetting his own party’s ...

A message for Senators Portman and Brown

To the editor: Please co-sponsor SB 1813, the Act for ALS. I understand you have concerns regarding cost to get the drugs to patients. With that being said, please remember the following: —People with ALS were and in some cases still work and pay taxes or their family members do. —That tax money is what is funding the FDA —the same FDA that is blocking the avenue for drugs to be approved so patients with ALS to get those drugs in hope of prolonging their lives, seeing their children grow up, and the hope a cure for ALS is found. —You took an oath to protect and serve the ...
