Lack of Ukraine awareness by American citizens is shocking

Dear Editor I am writing this in a state of shock as to what was stated to me by AMERICAN CITIZENS. I had two persons who are American citizens come to work on the horses. As we spoke of the events happening in the Ukraine, these two American citizens PRAISED President Putin and Russia for attacking the country of Ukraine. They state that Putin was taking out the mafia and those people doing drug and child trafficking. I asked how about the bombing and killing of women and children. They commented that was from the main stream news and was all FAKE news. That the pictures being shown ...

How will history recall the Russian invasion?

It doesn’t take a genius to answer “How will history remember the Russian invasion of Ukraine?” Quite frankly, most of us could write an accurate statement for history right now with just the limited knowledge we have: Putin has already told us he wishes to put the Soviet Union back together again. Crimea was a start Ukraine is now in play. And, Putin has Europe in a vice like, tight energy hold. Putin’s next invasion will be the Baltic states are better prepared. If not WWIII will happen. Russia respects strength. Quite frankly, only strength. Sanctions are a slap on the ...

East Liverpool needs its municipal court

To the Editor, There are some city and county officials with an agenda to close East Liverpool Municipal Court. They are calling it consolidating, when actually it would be closed. The municipal court has been a part of the East Liverpool historical fabric for 96 years, since 1926. Over 11 employees with over 200 years of court and probation experience would be forced out of jobs. The police departments, City, Liverpool and St. Clair Townships, local attorneys and local citizens would be forced to go to Lisbon to conduct business. So many more inconveniences would also incur. The ...

Refuting Witcover column

To the Editor: Jules Witcover does have a way to upset me. In my favorite newspaper, the Morning Journal, Feb. 18 issue, Mr. Witcover states, “Did Russia just blink on Ukraine threat?” Implying that Biden stopped Russia’s potential invasion of Ukraine. How does the Biden administration decisions on foreign and domestic policy stack up with their one-year history of decisions? Let’s take a look. Every foreign and domestic policy decision Biden and his administration made, over the last year, was actually the wrong decision based on what’s good for the USA. Afghanistan, ...

Response to Lisbon mayor’s revitalization project plan

To the Editor: In the January 22-23 paper was a guest column by (Lisbon) Mayor Peter Wilson.  First of all, when the revitalization project began it was to repair buildings and move new businesses into the open spaces, but Mayor Peter Wilson has used this to harass businesses not in operation. This can be verified by asking around at businesses in town. This kind of behavior has far more potentional to drive out business than to draw business in. Only eight of these buildings being rehabbed is far from making great strides. The fact that Lisbon has lost 8 percent of its population ...
