Continued failings of politicians, media

To the Editor: Just a brief letter to point out the continued failings of our politicians and the media. I walked into the TV room on Feb. 17 and caught the tail end of a political spokesperson stating that Russia, if sanctioned, will institute a cyber attack on the USA. Why would you even acknowledge what they may do? Do they like frightening the people of this country? I say “Yes, they love headlines.” Then, that same intellectual giant proceeded to say that based upon “government intelligence,” the most vulnerable area to attack would be (not something I will pass on). ...

Lions Club members will serve under a new name

To the editor: The Wellsville Lions Club, after having served the community for 42 years, has elected to relinquish its charter with Lions Club International. The same members who have dedicated and volunteered their time over the years to serve Wellsville will continue to do so under a new name — The Wellsville Care and Share Community Club. The projects and programs that have been available to the residents of Wellsville under the Lions Club will continue with the new organization. Such programs include Care and Share, providing eye exams and eyeglasses, and many other projects. ...

To the editor: I was delighted to read in the local newspapers that Salem’s ytd 2021 tax receipts are markedly better than anticipated despite the difficulties which most of the nation’s communities are experiencing with the lingering effects of the Covid 19 pandemic. LORDSTOWN — Lordstown Motors Corp. has replaced its president and brought on another senior executive in a leadership shakeup, that, according to the electric-vehicle startup, was done with narrow focus to bring its flagship truck to market and further develop its partnership with Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn. To the editor: Recently there have been some allegations regarding decisions made in the past by Salem Township Trustees. In the matter of action taken of our township constable, the trustees acted solely on the legal advice received from the Columbiana County Prosecutor’s Office. Regarding our response to the Cares Act funds, we have always worked conservatively. The stipulations provided for using these funds were somewhat vague and repercussions for not using the funds correctly had serious consequences. PPE usage important in current times

To the editor: Personal protective equipment (PPE) has never been more important than right now. Health care workers are facing a shortage of N95 masks, surgical masks, gowns, gloves, and alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Nurses are using the same N95 masks for a week at a time and are only able to get a new one if they get something on that mask before the seven days are up. This is causing a very serious issue among nurses from using the same mask all week and making it an unsafe work condition. When taking care of a COVID patient, that health care worker must remove their gloves, ...
