Thanks from the mayor of Salem

To the editor: As Mayor of the City of Salem, I want to thank the following citizens and organizations for their generous support and sponsorship, and for once again making this year’s fireworks display possible. It is important to remember that no tax dollars are spent to purchase fireworks. The only money used to fund this city-wide event comes entirely from donations made from individuals, organizations and businesses. Shout out to rally organizer

To the editor: I’m writing to give a shout out to 17- year- old Lena Rohr, East Liverpool, for organizing a great Pro Choice Rally July 10 in Lisbon. I’m also writing to set straight the number of people who attended the event as reported by local news stations. There were about 200 people of all ages in favor of abortion access, while at any one time the most anti-choice protesters had was 30 people, of gray-haired age. To the editor: The U.S. health care system is largely dependent on the support of travel nurses to survive. Whether it comes to hospitals, clinics, or other care facilities, travel nurses help maintain the health and safety of patients and facilities by adding a much-needed layer of support. For decades, nurses have struggled with long hours, high stress, and minimal pay and overtime. Our hospitals, patients, and the profession as a whole have suffered because of it. To the editor: Imagine this... it’s the Friday after Labor Day and you want to go to the local high school football game, or it’s the second week of April and you want to watch high school baseball games. Guess what? There are no games. Why? There are no officials for the games. At the present time, there is a shortage of officials. This shortage is so bad that some states are going to four referees instead of five for varsity football. To the editor: SCOFFLAW —The definition of Scofflaw is simply, “scoffing at the law.” If you haven’t heard of the word, you’re excused. The city of New York is credited with the creation of the word identifying those who violated the law with impunity. Cars parked illegally wore wheel locks when the cops were faster than the illegals, but the illegals often won. Thus, the word Scofflaw came into being. Franklin against Kensington Solar

To the editor: Well over 100 community members from the Summitville and Franklin Township area showed up for an informational meeting at the St. John’s Church Hall in Summitville held by the newly-organized FAKS-PAC, which stands for Franklin Against Kensington Solar Political Action Committee. Area farmer and lead organizer of the group, Diane Brown, served as the primary spokesperson at the town hall style meeting.
