— Officers on patrol in the area of East State Street and Park Avenue at 9:10 p.m. Thursday observed a vehicle being operated without tail lights. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and it was discovered the driver Santana Petrich, 44, East Palestine, had a suspended license. Petrich was cited for driving under suspension and given a warning for the tail light violation. Kaiser Towing responded to the scene and removed the vehicle from the roadway.
— Officers responded to Walmart at 6:52 p.m. Thursday for a report of a suspicious person who asset protection said had stolen close to $5,000 in merchandise in the past month. Asset protection lost track of the man in the store just prior to requesting officers respond and it was discovered by asset protection that the man had left the store prior to officers’ arrival.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of South Union Avenue at 6:26 p.m. Thursday for a domestic dispute. The caller claimed she was struck on the side of the face with a wooden back scratcher by her husband. Only slight redness was observed on the woman’s left ear, and due to the cold weather, officers couldn’t confirm the injury. The woman declined medical treatment. Officers made contact with the husband who denied the allegations and stated the incident was verbal only. Officers learned that the incident stemmed from the fact the two parties are in the process of getting a divorce. The two agreed to separate for the night.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Fair Avenue at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for a person to be removed. The caller said her ex-boyfriend was knocking on her door and keeps calling her. She said she didn’t want him there and didn’t want him contacting her. Officers stood by while the ex-boyfriend spoke to the caller briefly and advised him of the complaint and that he was criminally trespassed from the residence. Officers also advised him that any further contact with the caller would result in harassment charges.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Homewood Avenue at 3 p.m. Thursday for a theft report. The caller said that a package had been delivered and left near her front door and when she returned home alter in the evening the package was gone. Officers were advised that there might be camera footage available from a neighbor. The matter is under investigation
— Officers responded to the Salem Regional Medical Center at 9:12 a.m. Thursday for a report of an irate patient. Hospital staff advised that a man was being held for evaluation and not permitted to leave, and was upset because of this and yelling at hospital staff. Officers were able to calm the man down, who did try to leave while officers were present and was stopped. Hospital staff administered medication to the man to calm him down.
— Officers responded to the area of Butcher Road and South Cunningham Road at 7:54 p.m. Thursday for a report of a reckless operator. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
