Police
County Sheriff
— A deputy was called at 9:42 p.m. Sunday to Zeppernick Lake in East Rochester to check the welfare of a person kayak fishing who had not been seen by other kayakers who were leaving the area due to darkness. The deputy found a vehicle and upon looking at the lake, saw the fisherman heading for the landing. He said he was ok and preparing to leave.
— A horse was reported in the road in the area of Salem Grange and Cunningham roads in Salem Township at 5:44 a.m. Friday, but was not found after a deputy searched the area.
— A deputy responded at 12:05 a.m. Monday to South Lane Drive, Hanoverton, for a complaint of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
— Deputies responded at 8:14 a.m. June 10 to Rochester Road in West Township to serve Andrea Gibson, 44, Rochester Road, Hanoverton, with warrants for domestic violence and aggravated menacing.
— A disturbance was reported at 7:38 p.m. June 9 on Kirk Road, Fairfield Township, for a person who took medicine and was now tearing up the residence. The person wanted to go to a hospital and was transported by Columbiana EMS to St. Elizabeth in Boardman.
— A woman on Neeld Road in Unity Township reported her debit card stolen. A warrant was issued for a suspect.
— The sheriff’s office was called at 11:38 p.m. June 8 to McCracken Road in Salem Township for a domestic dispute. Jay Troyer, 28, McCracken Road, Salem, was taken into custody for a warrant out of Columbiana County Municipal Court and taken to jail.
Highway Patrol
— Joshua J. Price, 29, Lisbon, was cited Saturday with operating a motor vehicle above a reasonable speed that will allow him to stop within an assured clear distance and distracted driving, after rear-ending a man and his wife while the man was slowing down to make a left turn from state Route 154 to state Route 11. Price said he was reaching for his cigarettes at the time of the crash and didn’t see the other car slowing down. His vehicle suffered disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene, while the other vehicle sustained functional damage and was driven from the scene. No one was injured.
— Melody L. Bricker, 54, Salem, was cited Thursday with operating a vehicle without reasonable control and failure to control after driving off state Route 172, striking a tree stump and flipping her car twice. She said that she was a diabetic and had blacked out while driving. She suffered a suspected minor injury and was transported by EMS to Mercy Hospital in Canton. Her vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.
— Susan B. Bratt, 27, Wellsville, was cited June 8 with operating a motor vehicle above a reasonable speed that will allow her to stop within an assured clear distance, after rear-ending another driver as he was stopped and waiting to turn into a private driveway on state Route 45. Both vehicles suffered functional damage and were driven from the scene, and no injuries were sustained.
— An East Liverpool resident hit a deer June 8 as he was driving home on state Route 11. He sustained no injuries, but his vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.
Lisbon
— Officers responded to a fire alarm at Fleming House on Rose Drive June 7 at 8:15 p.m. Residents said there was no smoke and everyone was out.
— Officers received a call about a truck driving recklessly on state Route 154 June 5 at 6:46 p.m. Officers located the driver who did not show any signs of impairment. Police gave them a warning to pay attention to the roadway.
St. Clair Township
— James Swearengen, no age or address listed, was cited for failure to signal following a traffic stop on Irish Ridge Road at 3:48 p.m. Saturday. A K9 officer indicated the presence of a narcotic odor and search of the vehicle revealed a black bag in the trunk containing suspected marijuana and an unknown white powder in separate plastic bags. Officers also found $1,691 in the center console believed to be associated with drug trafficking. The suspected narcotics were sent to BCI for testing, with further charges pending.
East Liverpool
— A Wilbert Avenue resident reported at 3:07 a.m. Sunday she can hear people outside her window talking about breaking into her home and she believes them to be friends of baby’s father.
— Michael Allen Conzett, 25; and Dustin Michael Huff, 24, no addressed listed for either, were charged with public intoxication after officers responded to the 700 block of Rigby Street at 2:35 a.m. Sunday in reference to a double overdose. Several doses of Narcan were administered to Huff while Conzett was semi-responsive. Huff admitted that both men had snorted heroin. Huff was transported by ambulance to the East Liverpool hospital and Conzett was released to his family after refusing treatment.
— A man was reported missing at 8:35 a.m. Sunday. The caller said no one had seen the man since May 16 and she was worried due to his history of drug abuse.
— A patrolling officer at 1:13 a.m. Sunday observed someone setting up a tent on the patio deck of the Broadway Wharf. The person was identified and advised he could not camp there.
— A patrolling officer at 8:37 p.m. Saturday observed a man, identified as Larry J. Vance Jr., 47, no address listed, and woman fighting in the 200 block of West Fifth Street and found that Vance was upset because the woman wanted to leave the area. Both were determined to be intoxicated and they agreed to not drive and to not cause further issues. Officers returned at 9:04 p.m. where he had allegedly attempted to strike two women. He was charged with disorderly conduct and menacing.
— Taran Baker, no age or address listed, was cited for speed following a traffic stop at 7:57 p.m. Saturday on state Route 11.
— Thomas Redman II, no age or address listed, was cited for driving under suspension following a traffic stop on state Route 39 west at 7:06 p.m. Saturday.
— A Baum Street resident reported at 6 p.m. Saturday his neighbor told him someone from the water department had taken his cat. The resident was told the cat would be returned if it was found.
— Officers responded to the area just off state Route 11 near Autozone at 5:54 p.m. Saturday in reference to a woman being choked in a vehicle. Officers spoke with the man and woman in the vehicle and they denied nothing physical happened. The man said he was only popping a pimple on the woman’s neck.
— An officer responded to the area of Orchard Grove and Anderson at 4:49 p.m. Saturday in reference to a woman who was struck by an SUV, then the driver picked her up and left with her toward the east end. The officer found no signs of an accident and neighbors said they did not see anything or know what happened.
Leetonia
— Police received a call at 8:54 p.m. Monday from a man on Cherry Valley Drive. He claimed that the woman babysitting his child would not let him take the child from her home or let him retrieve his property from her house. The officer advised the woman that the man had the right to take both his child and property from her home, and stood by until the man did so.
— Officers were called to a residence on Columbia Street at 2:18 p.m. Friday about a smoke investigation. The family stated that everyone was out of the house, and the officers remained until the fire department deemed the house okay.
— Michael Pallone Jr. was arrested on an active warrant out of Youngstown after a traffic stop for rolling a stop sign in Leetonia at 9:54 p.m. Monday.
Columbiana
— Erin Atkinson was cited on June 6 for driving under suspension and a seat belt violation.
— Officers were called to West Salem Street to assist EMS. When they arrived, they learned that the subject involved had passed away from natural causes. The subject was transported to the funeral home of the family’s choice.
— The public pool manager called police at 9:17 p.m. June 6 to request help in removing a group of people smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol on the premises.
— Officers responded to Whispering Pines Village at 6:55 p.m. June 7 about a property crash. Some property was damaged, but no injuries were reported.
— Two juveniles were spotted riding their bikes on state Route 14 at 12:22 a.m. Wednesday. An officer picked them up and took them to the police station until their father picked them up. They were also given a warning about being out after curfew.
— Police and EMS were called to Hawkins Lane at 12:42 a.m. Wednesday for a medical call, then cleared the scene when the patient was safely transported.
— A woman called the police at 12:14 p.m. Thursday to report that her purse was stolen at a garage sale on Fairfield School Road.
— Brittney Cronin, 22, East Liverpool, was cited Friday for fictitious registration and driving under suspension after a traffic stop on state Route 7.
— John Wagner, 35, was cited Friday for driving under suspension on state Route 14. A consent search was conducted on the vehicle but nothing illegal was found.
— Officers were dispatched to South Vine Street at 8:13 p.m. Friday about a vandalism report. When they arrived, they learned that a juvenile had been seen throwing a brick at a nearby trailer. The officers investigated the matter and will refer the case to juvenile court.
— Police were called to Union Street for a welfare check at 1:26 a.m. Saturday. The subject was found to be okay, so officers cleared the scene.
— Calub Simpkins, 23, Salineville, was cited Sunday morning at 1:15 a.m. for marijuana possession and illumination of taillights after a traffic stop at Lisbon Street and Park Avenue.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 900 block of Franklin Avenue at 1:19 p.m. Monday in reference to a dispute between a landlord and tenant. The landlord was upset with the condition of the house and the tenant was upset the landlord walked into the garage. The landlord said he had started the eviction and the tenant said they were in the process of moving out. They were advised to cease all further contact with each other.
— An officer responded to the 600 block of East Ninth Street at 5:36 a.m. Monday where a resident reported her grandson would not listen to her. The juvenile was told he has to listen to his grandmother and he agreed.
— Patrolling officers at 2:16 a.m. Monday observed a known juvenile walking down the road. The juvenile was advised of the curfew law and he said he was on his way home.
— Officers responded to the 1600 block of East State Street at 10:57 p.m. Sunday in reference to an unruly juvenile and found the juvenile being restrained by her father and broken property all over the dining room. Medical personnel responded and the juvenile was transported to Akron Children’s in Boardman for evaluation.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 10:49 p.m. Sunday in reference to people knocking on doors. Officers checked the area and were unable to find anyone.
— Officers responded to the 1600 block of East State Street at 10:08 p.m. Sunday in reference to a juvenile who left home without permission. The juvenile was found in the area and returned home without incident, stating she was only going for a walk.
— An officer responded to the 100 block of Sharp Avenue at 9:55 p.m. Sunday where a woman requested an officer stand by while she gathered her belongings due to a person not wanting her there. The person ultimately agreed to let the woman gather her clothing.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of South Broadway Avenue at 7:35 p.m. Sunday in reference to a breaking and entering and found two broken windows and a smashed window on the front door of the building. Officers gained entry to the building and searched it, but could not find anyone.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Columbia Street at 6:10 p.m. Sunday in reference to a deceased person in a home. Medical personnel arrived and confirmed the person was deceased. The coroner was contacted and the deceased was released to a funeral home.
— A woman reported at 6:09 p.m. Sunday that a man she knows had threatened to hit her while she was riding a motorcycle.
— John Joseph Pesta, 61, Salem, was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign following a two-vehicle crash at North Ellsworth Avenue and East Third Street at 3:28 p.m. Sunday in which he was westbound and pulled from the stop sign into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by Chandler Nathan Chafins, 24, East Liverpool. No injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Pershing Street at 2 a.m. Tuesday where the resident reported someone broke through the drywall of his apartment from another portion of the multi-family dwelling. He said the man did not threaten him or take anything. An investigation is pending.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Vine Avenue at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in reference to a domestic dispute over a vehicle and found that the complainant did not want his wife taking his car since she did not have a driver’s license and she did not want him driving due to his intoxication level. Both people agreed to turn over the keys until the complainant could sober up to retrieve the key from the station.
— Both people separated for the evening to avoid further conflict.
— Tricia Ann Watson, 38, homeless, was arrested on an active warrant out of Columbiana County after officers responded to the Salem hospital where she was being released and known to have the warrant at 11:36 p.m. Monday.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 11:02 p.m. Monday in reference to a fight between multiple people. Two men reportedly started causing an issue at a business and were asked to leave, at which time they assaulted to other men and fled the area. Medical personnel responded and both victims were transported to the hospital. An investigation is pending.
— A Hawley Avenue resident reported at 10:52 p.m. Monday he let a friend use his EBT card to buy food and she spent more than he wanted her to. He was told that since he let her use the card, the matter was civil, not criminal.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of Olive Street at 9:25 p.m. Monday in reference to a woman in the roadway yelling. Officers found the woman and she was transported to the hospital per her request.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of East Fourth Street at 8:44 p.m. Monday in reference to a disorderly man having a dispute with another man. Officers found the man in question and issued a disorderly conduct warning.
— Officers responded to the area of North Lincoln Avenue and East Fourth Street at 8:32 p.m. Monday in reference to a disorderly man hitting the ground. Officers found the man who denied hitting the ground, but admitted to hitting his chicken parmesan before eating it.
— A Lexington Avenue resident reported at 7:30 p.m. Monday a known woman is sending him unwanted text messages. An officer read the messages and did not see any threats. The officer said the woman would be told to stop contact and advised the complainant how to file for a protection order.
Perry Township
— An officer was pumping gas at a 100 block West State Street business at 6:10 a.m. Friday when a store patron reported a male individual inside the store who had placed merchandise in his pants. The officer spoke with the person in question who said he put the item back. Salem police responded to the scene and trespassed him from the store.
— A Jackson Avenue resident reported at 3:04 p.m. June 9 identity theft in which he was notified of a withdrawal from his bank account for a transaction in Beaver Falls, Pa.
— A Depot Road resident reported at 3 p.m. June 9 a vehicle with three occupants had driven through the driveway and left. Officers checked the area but could not find the vehicle in question.
— Police responded to a Plymouth Place home at 10:56 p.m. June 8 where the resident reported her juvenile daughter had left the residence. Police were given an address inside the city of Salem to check and they found her there. The juvenile was returned home.
— Officers assisted the highway patrol and Salem police with a traffic crash at Beechwood Road and Allen Road at 3:12 a.m. June 8 in which the driver, Joshua Tolson, 37, Ravenna, was arrested for OVI after striking a pole.
— Police responded to the 1400 block of West State Street at 3:12 p.m. June 7 for a welfare check and spoke with a man who said he was upset about a family matter and had been drinking, letting the care of his yard go. Police ensured he was in a stable state of mind before leaving.
— A state Route 344 resident reported identity theft at 12:10 p.m. June 7.
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Countryside Drive at 6:07 a.m. June 7 to assist on a medical call and stood by while medical personnel got the patient out of the residence and into the ambulance for transportation to Mercy Health-Boardman.
— Margarita Mateo-Ramon, 46, Salem, was arrested on an active warrant out of Columbiana County after officers responded to the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 8 p.m. June 6 to assist the sheriff’s office in serving the warrant.
— Police responded to the 1100 block of West Perry Street at 6:34 p.m. June 6 in reference to a domestic dispute. Police spoke with all people involved and they were able to resolve the issue. The complainant was advised of the eviction process while another person on scene was issued a final warning for disorderly conduct for screaming and throwing items around outside.
— Leiganne Jamison, 29, Salem, was cited for failure to yield from private property and no valid driver’s license following a two-vehicle crash in the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 3:07 p.m. June 6 in which she failed to yield from a business driveway, pulling into the path of a vehicle driven by Phyllis Odom, 88, Salem. Two people were transported to the Salem hospital for minor injuries.
— Police spoke with several people at Cry Baby Bridge on Egypt Road at 1:20 a.m. June 6. They were advised they were on private property and they left without incident.
— Police responded to a West Perry Street home at 12:23 a.m. June 6 where a resident had called a veterans hotline regarding experiencing PTSD. The resident agreed to be transported by ambulance to the Salem hospital.
— An officer responded to the 1800 block of state Route 344 at 12:49 p.m. June 5 in reference to a stolen firearm. The information was provided to the detective for investigation.
