Hopple races to 3200 win at GlenOak
CANTON — Addison Hopple raced to a win in the 3200-meter run to lead Salem’s girls track team on Saturday at the Canton GlenOak Second Sole Eagle Elite meet.
Hopple finished in 11:42.94.
Peyton Colbert earned a second-place finish in the high jump as she cleared 5 feet.
Chaya Murray also turned in a strong time in the 100 as she was third in 12.85.
The Quaker 1600 relay team of Laura Hovorka, Abby Knickerbocker, Karlie Sampson and Murray was second in 4:11.89.
Salem’s girls finished tied for sixth with 51 points. Twinsburg won the meet with 72.2 points.
For the Salem boys Lucas Adams won the long jump with a best leap of 22-0.5.
Salem’s boys finished in 16th position with 21 points.
Wadsworth won the tightly contested meet with 56 points.
Spartan Invitational
BOARDMAN — West Branch and Crestview’s track teams battled on Saturday at the Boardman Spartan Invitational.
West Branch senior Tallie Muniz captured the Warriors’ lone win with a best leap of 4 feet, 11 inches in the high jump. Warrior junior Kendelle Hoopes was second (4-10) in that event as well as the long jump (14-7.25). Also in the field events, Indoika Woods was third in the shot put (35-2.25) for Branch.
On the track side of things, West Branch junior Kylah Stryffeler was third in the 400-meter dash (1:04.72) as was Sophia Dorris in the 100 hurdles (17.41) and Alli Kanagy in the 300 hurdles (50.29). In the relays, Crestview’s 3200 team of Adri Hodge, Piper Harvey, Savannah Neville and Bridget Bortchardt was third (11:02.53).
In boys action, West Branch sophomore Jax Rockwell was second in the high jump (6-0) and long jump (19-4). Crstview’s Tyler Savage was third in the high jump (5-10), while Caidyn McElhaney was third in the long jump (19-3).
On the track, West Branch senior Noah Dean took third in the 400 (50.88), while Crestview’s Joshua Smith was third in the 110 hurdles (17.49).
In the relays, the West Branch 800 relay of Johnathon Edwards, Kasen Weaver, Dean and Aiden Handy was third in 1:33.17.
The hosts won both the boys and girls team titles.
West Branch’s girls were tied for second with Garfield, while Crestview girls were eighth.
West Branch’s boys took third overall, while the Crestview boys were eighth.
