United Local receives donation to cover costs of performing in Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade

HANOVERTON — The United Local School District has received $110,000 in donations to help cover the cost of the band’s performance at Pearl Harbor in December. It was first announced in May of this year that the marching band would be participating in the 85th Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade on Dec. 7. At that time funds were donated by local veterans organizations in support of the trip that will honor the lives of those lost in the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Salem Fire Department responds to kitchen fire Monday

SALEM — A Salem business experienced a kitchen fire Monday. A structure fire was reported at the Foundry at 7:18 p.m. When firefighters arrived, smoke was visible from the rear of the building and employees of the business advised them that the fire was in the kitchen. Salem Fire Department Capt. Jeff Olinger said that fire was located on a stove top and appeared to have been started by items on the stove top overheating when someone accidentally turned on the wrong burner while attempting to heat something. SALEM — An equipment fire required employees at a Salem business to be temporarily evacuated Tuesday. An equipment fire was reported at around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday at American Standard Brands in Salem. Salem Fire Department Lt. Kevin Bryan said that employees of the business had extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher and shut off power to the machine to prevent further fire prior to firefighter’s arrival. County health district issues reminder of scrap tire collection

LISBON — The Columbiana County Health District is reminding residents the district will host a free scrap tire collection event from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 3 at the Columbiana County fairgrounds. The collection guidelines include a limit of 10 tires per person, tires must be off of the rim and only passenger car and light truck tires will be accepted. The fairgrounds is located off of Lee Avenue, Lisbon.
