CPR CLASSES SCHEDULED FOR JULY NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. — The Hancock County Health Dept. will offer Basic Life Support and Heartsaver classes in July. The BLS class which includes CPR and AED training geared toward healthcare worked is slated from 9 a.m. to noon on July 7. A written exam is mandatory. Cost is $25. The Heartsaver class which includes first aid, CPR and AED training will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on July 28. Cost is $50. Written exam is optional. A student handbook will be available for $5. Former Lock 24 becomes a ‘Gathering Place’

ELKTON (WKBN) — A historic Columbiana County landmark is entering a new chapter. A barn along Route 154 in Elkton that dates back to the 1830s is under new ownership. Most people know the property as Lock 24, but now it’s called the 1830 Gathering Place. The building has seen many businesses come and go throughout the years. Salem BOE approves move to Northeast 8, Quakers to play out EBC football contract

SALEM — The board of education approved a membership agreement to join the Northeast 8 Conference in 2027 in its June 15 meeting. The board of education voted unanimously to approve an agreement to join the conference with membership participation set to begin in the 2027-2028 school year. Columbiana School District continues upgrades to facilities

COLUMBIANA — Upgrades are ongoing for the Columbiana School District. In addition to the improvements at the Ward Athletic Complex, the district is also continuing to update heating and air conditioning units and is looking into a roofing project. District Superintendent Dr. Don Mook briefed the board on the HVAC and roofing projects this month, after first providing a brief update on the athletic improvements.
