East Palestine police investigating drive-by shooting on West Martin Street

EAST PALESTINE — Village police are investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred early Sunday on West Martin Street. Lt. Don Johnson released a statement via social media Sunday morning stating that the shooting occurred in the 800 block of West Martin Street and it is believed it was a targeted incident and there is currently no threat to the public. Commissioners vacate section of Skyview Drive in St. Clair Township

LISBON — A 40-foot section of Skyview Drive in St. Clair Township was vacated this week, with no opposition in attendance at the commissioners’ meeting Wednesday. Petitioner Tammy L. Palma was the lone person there for the public hearing and said the owner of the neighboring property already signed off on the vacation. Wellsville fire chief asks to resume talks on transferring dispatch services

WELLSVILLE – The Wellsville fire chief is looking to resume talks about transferring dispatch services to the county 911 center. Fire Chief Barry Podwel recently told village council he would like to resume discussion of transferring dispatch services from the fire department to Columbiana County 911. Podwel has been encouraging the switch for the past several months due to a lack of available responders. EAST PALESTINE — On July Fourth don’t be alarmed if you see a bevy of beds traveling through Village Park. For the first time in decades, the decorated bed race is being brought back as part of the Fourth of July festivities. Teams who register are tasked with decorating their beds and racing them through the park. Known as one of East Palestine’s wildest traditions, bed races were last held in the village between the 1970s and 1980s. Another status hearing set in charitable donations theft case

LISBON — Another status hearing has been set for 11 a.m. Aug. 14, with a trial tentatively set for Oct. 13, in the criminal case against Amanda M. Kiger and River Valley Organizing for the alleged theft of charitable donations for personal use. During a status hearing Friday, defense attorney T. Robert Bricker said he received discovery from the prosecution, calling it “very voluminous” consisting of more than 800 file folders on a flash drive.
