EAST LIVERPOOL — The City of East Liverpool’s new dump truck, approved for purchase by City Council during the March 2 council meeting, was delivered Monday.

The new truck was parked at East Liverpool City Hall during Monday’s meeting for council members and administration check out.

The truck, which was purchased for use in road repairs and salting and plowing the roads, is a 2026 Mack truck equipped with a dump bed, 11-foot snowplow and V-Box salt spreader purchased through the State of Ohio Cooperative Purchasing Program for $163,414.

The dump truck was purchased along with two new garbage trucks which the city has already taken delivery of and put in use.

According to Deputy Director Dan Galeotti, the new dump truck is usable now, but he anticipates it being a couple of weeks before actually being put into service, due to the need to remove the saltbox and spreader and apply the city emblem decals to the side of the doors. The decals are currently on order through Campbell Signs.

Once the truck is put into service, it will be used for paving.

Galeotti said the city’s old truck is currently on its last legs and he is trying to get it repaired because he is hoping to be able to have the old and new truck both running for paving, because it would allow the road department to get more done that way as long as the funding holds up for them. He noted by running both trucks, the road department could complete the paving quicker.

He also noted the department is still short staffed. The city’s Safety Services Director Bill Jones is working on trying to build up the department’s staffing.
