SALEM –Goodbye Peebles, hello Gordmans, beginning with a grand opening ribbon cutting for the new Gordmans store at 9 a.m. June 27 in the Salem Plaza on East State Street.

Kristen Whitman, a media liaison for Gordmans, said the Peebles retail store will close June 15 and be converted to Gordmans, an off-price name brand apparel and home decor retailer which is part of the Stage Stores community of stores.

Less than two weeks later, Gordmans will make its debut in Salem, at the same time 24 other new Gordmans locations are holding grand opening ribbon cuttings throughout Ohio. As part of the event, the company will donate a check for $1,000 to Salem High School. According to Whitman, new Salem High School Principal Todd McLaughlin has been invited to accept the check. Mayor John Berlin is also planning to attend. The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce is planning an appearance that morning, also.

Community members are invited to join in the fun of the ribbon cutting before shopping for deals. According to the press release, the first 100 guests in line at the grand opening will have an opportunity to win a $50 gift card or a $5 shopping card and receive a Gordmans insulated tote bag. The Gordmans Grand Opening Tour Celebration includes 36 brand new stores opening in June across the country, including the 25 Ohio locations. Whitman said many of the new locations will result from Peebles conversions. By the end of this year, the number of Gordmans stores will increase to more than 150 nationwide.

Guests who apply and are approved for a Gordmans credit card will receive 20 percent off their first day purchases and those shoppers who enroll in the Style Circle Rewards program can receive payback rewards, double-double points, a birthday gift and more.
