Texans send Steelers into uncertainty

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Sheldon Rankins returned a fumble by Aaron Rodgers 33 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to highlight a dominant performance by the NFL’s top-ranked defense, and the Houston Texans beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-6 on Monday night for the first road playoff win in franchise history. The Texans (13-5) play at New England (15-3) in the divisional round on Sunday night. C.J. Stroud turned it over three times but also threw a first-half touchdown pass to Christian Kirk, who had eight catches for 144 yards. Woody Marks had 112 yards rushing for ...

Heyward: It’s about time

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Cam Heyward can do the math. Then again, it’s not that hard. The longest-tenured defensive player in Pittsburgh Steelers history knows he has far more football behind him than he does in front of him. How much more is anybody’s guess, though if you watch him on any given snap — when the seven-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle’s motor appears to run just as hot at 36 as it did at 21 — it might be longer than you think. Still, Heyward learned long ago that opportunities like the one that arrives tonight, when the AFC North champion Steelers (10-7) host the ...

Malinin, fresh off his fourth straight national title, will be the prohibitive favorite to follow in the footsteps of Nathan Chen by delivering another men’s gold medal for the American squad when he steps on the ice at the Milano Ice Skating Arena. Chock and Bates, who won their record-setting seventh U.S. title Saturday night, also ...

Hoosiers closing in on elusive 16-0 season

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza originally planned on going to Yale, which pulled out all the stops during his recruiting visit five years ago. Among the ploys the Bulldogs used that day: a nod to their history, including how Larry Kelly and Clint Frank won the Heisman Trophy for Yale in 1936 and 1937, respectively. Mendoza won the Heisman this season. Mendoza and Yale’s history are now colliding again. Yale is the only major college football team to finish a season 16-0, pulling that off in 1894. Indiana can do the same if it wins the College ...
