Texans have faith

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair were brought together by football, but it is a relationship forged by faith. Anderson, a Christian, and Al-Shaair, a Muslim, didn’t let religious differences divide them. Instead, they leaned into their shared piousness to build a bond through faith that has paid dividends both on and off the field. “I’m a Christian through and through, but I also think it’s very important to see how other people … think and how they feel about certain things,” Anderson said. Added Al-Shaair: ...

Eagles drop the ball in Super Bowl repeat bid

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A.J Brown dropped a third-down pass and was slow to get off the field when coach Nick Sirianni chased down the moody wide receiver on the sideline. Brown and Sirianni, a former Mount Union wide receiver and coach, bickered in a sideline spat that quickly forced chief security officer Dom DiSandro to intervene. Brown ripped off his helmet in frustration and yelled more in Sirianni’s direction — perhaps he could have used a good book — after the Eagles punted to end a drive. Brown had nothing to say after the game – stay tuned for another possible cryptic ...

Patriots’ defense roughs up Chargers

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Drake Maye threw a touchdown pass to Hunter Henry in the fourth quarter, and New England’s defense roughed up Justin Herbert as the Patriots beat the Los Angeles Chargers 16-3 in an AFC wild-card playoff game on Sunday night. Andy Borregales kicked three field goals for the Patriots (15-3), who won a playoff game for the first time since their Super Bowl victory to cap the 2018 season. They’ll host the winner of Monday night’s game between Pittsburgh and Houston in the divisional round. In his first career playoff game, Maye completed 17 of 29 passes ...

Steelers out to end playoff futility

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Mike Tomlin has no interest in shucking the weight of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ recent playoff failures onto the shoulders of his players heading into Monday night’s opening-round visit by Houston. “I’m certainly not going to unpack my bags on the collective’s bed, if you will,” said Tomlin, who will take a six-game postseason losing streak onto the Acrisure Stadium turf to face the streaking Texans. The Steelers (10-7) seem intent on carrying it anyway, their future Hall of Fame quarterback perhaps most of all. Aaron Rodgers, in the late stages of ...

AFC PLAYOFFS

DENVER (AP) — Sean Payton listed three goals for his Denver Broncos this season, and chief among them was knocking off the Kansas City Chiefs. They did that, winning the AFC West for the first time in a decade and ending K.C.’s nine-year reign atop the division. The Chiefs, who have played in the past seven AFC championship games, are already aiming for next season after a 6-11 finish that ended with Patrick Mahomes with a surgically repaired knee. Payton’s second goal was earning the best seed possible in the playoffs so the Broncos wouldn’t have to hit the road like they ...
