United 7, Columbiana 0 COLUMBIANA – United got back on track in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference with a 7-0 win over Columbiana on Thursday. Quentin Taylor went six strong innings for the Eagles with 11 strikeouts, but sidestepped seven walks to preserve the shutout with the help of Jason Pratt who threw a scoreless seventh. For the Eagles, Taylor had two hits and an RBI. Ryan Miller had a single and double. Ethan Newburn also had two hits. Hunter Davanzo had two hits for Columbiana. Salem and West Branch have plans in motion for their next league landing spots. The two schools have applied for positions in the Mahoning Valley-based All-American Conference and the Medina, Portage and Summit county-based Metro Athletic Conference. Hiscox, Simmons, Jones post top qualifying marks

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — United’s Brinsley Hiscox and Taylor Simmons and Southern’s Maddy Jones posted the top marks in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 1A-3A qualifying meet Wednesday. Hiscox topped the Class 3A girls 100-meter hurdles, while Simmons tied for the top spot in the high jump. Jones was first in the Class 1-2A girls shot put.
