Jones, Simmons start on path to state

ANDOVER — Southern senior Maddy Jones and United sophomore Taylor Simmons are aiming for more than a district championship. Both won events at the Pymatuning Valley Division IV district track and field meet Wednesday. Jones — who qualified for state in the shot put and discus last year and in the discus as a freshman — won the district shot put title with a toss of 37-feet-1 on her first attempt. ST. CLAIRSVILLE — East Liverpool senior Kailynn Kirby leaped to a third straight regional berth Wednesday. Kirby placed fourth at the St. Clairsville Division III district track and field meet, clearing 4-foot-10. OAK GLEN FACES ELIMINATION NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. — It's do or die for the Oak Glen baseball team. The Golden Bears will play a Class AA, Region 1 elimination game at 5 p.m. today at Williamstown.
