Jones, Simmons start on path to state

ANDOVER — Southern senior Maddy Jones and United sophomore Taylor Simmons are aiming for more than a district championship. Both won events at the Pymatuning Valley Division IV district track and field meet Wednesday. Jones — who qualified for state in the shot put and discus last year and in the discus as a freshman — won the district shot put title with a toss of 37-feet-1 on her first attempt. Potter leaps way back into regional

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — East Liverpool senior Kailynn Kirby leaped to a third straight regional berth Wednesday. Kirby placed fourth at the St. Clairsville Division III district track and field meet, clearing 4-foot-10. The top four finishers in each event advance to the regional meet at Muskingum University next week. She was the only local regional qualifier on Wednesday. OAK GLEN FACES ELIMINATION NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. — It's do or die for the Oak Glen baseball team. The Golden Bears will play a Class AA, Region 1 elimination game at 5 p.m. today at Williamstown.
