United 7, East Palestine 0, suspended

HANOVERTON — The only thing that stopped the United baseball team Friday was the weather.

United led East Palestine 7-0 with no outs in the bottom of the second inning and the bases loaded before weather suspended action. It will be completed at a later date.

The teams went through a lightning delay after one batter. When the game resumed, United scored two runs in the first inning on Wyatt Swanson’s two-run double with two outs and added five more in the second inning.

Carter Simmons, Quentin Taylor and Nick Lutes had singles in the second inning, while four Eagles walked and Swanson drove in another run after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. That’s when the game was eventually called.

United pitcher Kadin Schonauer scored two runs and held the Bulldogs to a single by Brad Bartels with five strikeouts and two walks.

Taylor had two of United’s six hits.

United held East Palestine to one hit in a 16-0 win on Monday.

Both teams play Monday as United (2-1) visits Leetoni and East Palestine (0-1) hosts Columbiana.
