Rhodes shoots for Rebels’ 14th victory

Crestview 56, Newton Falls 10

COLUMBIANA — Crestview senior Addison Rhodes played like the reigning Sports Illustrated National High School Girls Basketball Athlete of the Week.

Rhodes scored the first 18 points of the game in the Rebels’ 56-10 win over Newton Falls on Thursday.

She collected 25 points in the first half on 10-of-15 shooting and finished with 27 points and four steals in less than 14 minutes of action.

The Rebels jumped out to a 25-0 lead in the second quarter and 50-2 in the third quarter. Crestview’s defense held Newton Falls without a field goal until 13 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Crestview improves to 14-1 overall and 10-0 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Tier, a game ahead of LaBrae. Newton Falls drops to 6-10 and 3-7 in the MVAC.

Karli Perry added 11 points and Kerrigan Miller dished out five assists. Lainey Milhoan was solid off the bench with six points and four rebounds.

On Monday, Rhodes received Sports Illustrated’s weekly honor that is based on an online vote.

She hit her first six shots — which included four three-pointers — to give the Rebels a 16-0 lead in the opening six minutes. She had 25 of Crestview’s first 30 points and the Rebels took a 40-1 lead.

The Rebels had only three turnovers in the first half, while forcing 16 turnovers and 0-of-12 shooting by the Tigers.

Crestview also won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 27-2, as Katie MacKay and Lilli Neese each scored 10 points.

Both teams will play Wednesday as Crestview hosts Champion and Newton Falls travels to Garrettsville Garfield.

Columbiana 64, Leetonia 11

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana’s girls basketball team had no trouble with Leetonia in a 64-11 victory on Thursday.

The Clippers led 17-2 after the first quarter and 44-5 at halftime.

Annah Clemmer posted 23 points, while Evy Rapp added 1o points for the Clippers.

Columbiana is 14-2 and 10-1 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. The Clippers trail Southern by a game in the standings.

Leetonia is 1-12 and 1-10 in the league.

The Bears host Conotton Valley on Monday.

Columbiana will host East Palestine on Jan. 22.

Columbiana won the jayvee game, 19-2. Jose Hepler had eight points.

EAST PALESTINE — Maelee Smith had 27 points as United’s girls basketball team marched to a 53-16 win over East Palestine on Thursday.

The Golden Eagles are 9-7 overall and 7-4 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Bella Thompson added 11 points, eight steals, five rebounds and five assists. Ines Vilela Rego had seven points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Smith also had seven rebounds and four steals.

For East Palestine (8-8, 5-6 in the EOAC), Jacklyn Ogle had 10 points and seven rebounds. Violet Glavan added nine rebounds.

East Palestine hosts Alliance on Saturday.

United is at Lisbon on Jan. 22.

LISBON — Nine Lisbon players scored as the Blue Devils doubled up Wellsville, 49-23, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Thursday.

It was the Blue Devils’ third win in four games to improve to 9-7 overall and 6-5 in the EOAC. The Tigers drop to 0-15 and 0-11 in league play.

Lylah Brown led Lisbon with 12 points. Eme Cook had three three-pointers for nine points.

The Blue Devils led 31-4 at halftime.

Kenzie Bosco topped Wellsville with 13 points.

Lisbon will host Waterloo on Monday, while Wellsville travels to Toronto on Wednesday.

LISBON — Bristol’s jayvee girls basketball team was a 31-28 winner over Lisbon on Wednesday.

Bridgett Newbold had 13 points for the Devils. Delaney Pickens added eight points.
