Beavers, Potters roll on

Beaver Local 3, Minerva 0

CALCUTTA — Third-seeded Beaver Local sweep sixth-seeded Minerva, 25-16, 25-23, 25-15, Tuesday to earn a trip to the Division IV district final.

The Beavers won their seventh in a row to move to 22-2 on the season. They will play second-seeded River View (20-4) at 6 p.m. Thursday at a site to be announced with a regional berth on the line.

The Beavers had another balanced attack as Lily Schrieber had 12 kills and 11 digs, Eva McKnight 10 kills, Sydney McNear seven kills, Giada Williams six kills and six blocks, Addie Thurik five kills, three aces and three digs, Bria Boyd two kills, an ace and 35 assists and Karsyn Bowyer 16 digs, three assists and three aces. Perri Gilson and Taylor Pease each had five digs.

Minerva had its seven-match winning streak snapped. The Lions finished 14-10, including two losses to each Marlington and West Branch, the top two teams in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.

East Liverpool 3, St. Clairsville 2

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The tournament trail only gets harder for East Liverpool.

The fifth-seeded Potters topped fourth-seeded St. Clairsville, 25-23, 26-28, 25-27, 25-23, 15-12, in a Division IV district seminal marathon Tuesday.

The Red Devils beat the Potters in a three-game sweep on Sept. 27 in the Buckeye 8 tournament when East Liverpool was without setter Kamryn Yanni. But the Potters are healthier as they improved to 17-7 on the season.

East Liverpool will play top-seeded Byesville Meadowbrook at 6 p.m. Thursday at Tuscarawas Valley High School.

Meadowbrook, ranked fourth in the state poll, is 21-2 after winning its last seven matches.

The Potters outscored the Red Devils’ 116 points to 113 in the closely contested match that took 2 1/2 hours.

For the Potters, Yanni had three aces, six kills and 62 assists. Presley Jones chipped in an ace, 13 kills and five blocks. Addie Jones had two kills, while Kendall Martin had 15 kills and two blocks. Ava Green had 37 kills and an assist. Hailey Board had an ace, kill and five blocks. Ayla Riggle had four aces, an assist and 25 digs.

St. Clairsville finished at 17-6.

Girard 3, Columbiana 1

COLUMBIANA — Three-time Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference champion Columbiana had a tough ending to its season.

The seventh-seeded Clippers lost for fourth time in five matches, falling to 19th-seeded Girard, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 25-15, in a Division V district semifinal Thursday at Berryman Gymnasium.

The Clippers got 15 kills, six points, two aces, two blocks and nine digs from Landry Smith and 11 points, five aces, nine kills from Addisyn Dangler. Eva Waller contributed nine points, 31 assists and 13 digs, Evy Rapp six kills and 22 digs, Hailee Gomoll three points and 15 digs and Layla McCarthy made 15 digs.

The Clippers finish at 19-5.

Girard improves to 9-15 with its third win in the last eight matches. The Indians lost to Crestview and West Branch earlier this month.

Second-seeded Elyria Catholic beat 25th-seeded Akron Manchester in the opener, 25-13, 25-20, 25-12.

It was the 13th straight win for Elyria Catholic, no 21-2.

Girard and Elyria Catholic will play for the district title at 7 p.m. Thursday at Rocky River Magnificat.

Cornerstone 3, Lisbon 0

KIDRON — Third-seeded Cornerstone Christian ended Lisbon’s season with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-19 win in a Division VII district semifinal Tuesday.

Cornerstone won for the sixth time in seven matches to improve to 14-9.

Lisbon leaders were Maddie Marshalek with 11 kills and 13 digs, Stefanee Stacey seven kills, 27 assistsand 10 digs, Abby Ammon 12 digs, Alayna Householder six kills and 13 digs, Addison Anderson eight digs and Gionna Lenigar three blocks and four kills. Turning in nice passing games were Hannah Davis, Aria Reckner, Johanna Ford and Ariel Dickey.

Lisbon, the 11th seed finishes at 13-12 after being 4-7 at one point.

“I am sad the season is over but I am not sad in our play in the district semifinals, we fought back all three games and stayed resilient,” Lisbon coach Dana Blackburn said. “Cornerstone is a very good team up front, their libero is exceptional, and there is a reason they were the sixth seed.”

Kidron Central 3, Wellsville 0

KIDRON — Second-seeded Kidron Central Christian topped 18th-seeded Wellsville, 25-13, 25-13, 25-13, in a Division VII district final Thursday.

The Comets improve to 18-6 and will play sixth-seeded Cornerstone Christian on Thursday in the district final.

Wellsville wraps up its season at 7-16.

Western Reserve 3, Heartland 0

ELYRIA — Chloeigh Endsley had 16 kills, three blocks and four service aces as eighth-seeded Western Reserve swept fifth-seeded Heartland Christian, 25-23, 25-7, 25-15, in a Division VII district semifinal Thursday.

Quincy Miller added 17 assists and 12 digs to the winning attack. Eva Kale had seven kills and three aces and Angela DeSanto had 14 digs.

The Blue Devils improve to 13-11, while the Lions end the season at 14-10.

Western Reserve will play third-seeded Open Door for the district title Thursday at Smithville High School.

Oak Glen splits

WHEELING, W.Va. — Oak Glen split a pair of matches Tuesday.

Morgantown topped the Golden Bears, 25-17, 25-17, to improve to 31-4-1 on the season.

Brooklyn Six had five kills for Oak Glen. Averi Martin, Haylee Stewart and Kendall Six each had two kills and Kriera Vick had four digs. Mikalyn Balch had 11 assists. Keira Vick made four digs.

Oak Glen defeated Wheeling Park, 25-18, 18-25, 25-12, in the other match.

Topping the Golden Bears were Averi Martin with nine kills, Brayley Lash eight kills, Haylee Stewart six kills, Brooklyn Six four kills Mattie Carney two kills. Mikalyn Balch 27 assists and Keira Vick six digs.

Oak Glen is 21-10-3 overall.
