Emch makes Pitt debut
LINCOLN, Neb. — Crestview High School graduate Abbey Emch made her University of Pittsburgh volleyball debut in the Panthers’ 19-25, 25-15, 15-25, 26-24, 15-13 loss to Florida on Sunday at the University of Nebraska.
Emch played three sets and had one kill.
Pitt also lost on Friday against the hosts in four sets.
The Panthers will host TCU on Sunday.
Panerathon winners
YOUNGSTOWN — The 16th annual Panerathon through downtown Youngstown and Mill Creek Park had 841 finishers for the 10K race Sunday.
Tyler Clark, 24, of Niles was first in the 6.2-mile event in 31 minutes, 30.0 seconds.
Bre Rupe, 29, of Youngstown won the women’s race in 38:35.7.
There were 841 finishers, including 437 males and 404 females.
Recent Heartland Christian graduate Sawyer Szabo, 19, was fifth overall (36:23.7). Jeff Geiss, 49, finished sixth (36:35.4) and topped the Men’s Masters division. Heartland Christian senior Mason Sharo, 17, was 14th (38:19.8).
Area runners finishing first in their respective divisions were:
• Cierra Coontz, 25, of East Palestine in Women’s 25-29 (44:39.2).
• Kaitlin Benner, 15, of Salem in Women’s 15-19 (46:21.6).
• Natalie Guappone, 58, of Lisbon in Women’s Grand Masters (46:50.3).
• Jessica Irwin, 37, of Columbiana in Women’s (47:48.8).
• John Weaver, 73, of East Liverpool in Men’s 70-74 (48:55.6).
• Mandy Ward, 46, of East Palestine in Women’s 45-49 (51:45.).
• Leah Claugus, 7, of Lisbon in Female Under-15 (56:11.5).
Rays shut out Guardians
CLEVELAND (AP) — Junior Caminero homered twice and drove in three runs, and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the slumping Cleveland Guardians 9-0 Monday.
Yandy Diaz also connected for Tampa Bay, and Carson Williams had two hits and two RBIs in his third major league game. The Rays finished with 14 hits in their third consecutive win.
Tampa Bay left-hander Ian Seymour (2-0) struck out eight in five innings in his first career start. He allowed one hit and walked one.
Cleveland has dropped six straight and nine of 10 overall. It has been shut out in its last three games.
Caminero, who turned 22 in July, had four hits and scored four times. He has 39 homers on the season.
Díaz hit a 384-foot solo homer in the seventh, ending Tanner Bibee’s start. After a brief rain delay, Caminero hit his second homer, and Williams added a two-run double.
Bibee (9-10) was charged with five runs and eight hits in six-plus innings. He has allowed four or more runs in five of his seven starts since the All-Star break.
