Editor: Does anyone in favor of metered parking own or operate a downtown business? How would you feel if you owned a business, and in one month, had seven customers say they would no longer buy from you because of the $10 parking sting if they spend a few extra minutes shopping in your establishment? Multiply that seven customers a month times 12 months, and how many have you lost now? When those businesses fold, no one will be paying taxes to the village, but rather to Center Township. Editor: It is a shame that our history is being destroyed. History is important and should be preserved. Our whole county is rich in history and could be a busy area for travelers and history buffs bringing in tourist dollars for the county. We have a number of historical buildings and the historical facts behind them in this county. Why are we keeping all this a secret and destroying these buildings? Editor: I am the executive director of the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce and I have lived in Lisbon all my life. I truly believe in our town and I try hard to promote it. Editor: Over the holiday, I had the pleasure of visiting Bye & Bye Hardware, a cornerstone business of Lisbon’s historic downtown. Adding to the charm of the painted tin ceilings, swinging ladder shelves and helpful employees who have known my family for years were homemade cookie trays, punch and the smell of candles burning. This quaint and cozy feeling can only be felt in these family-owned businesses in the village where I’m proud to have grown up.
