The grad mill

Editor: Is there a crime called snookery? If so, our universities should be indicted for it. The taxpayers are burdened with over a trillion dollars in student loans because of these snake oil peddlers. High school graduates who can’t pass English or math proficiency tests or get a loan to buy a big screen TV are granted tens of thousands of dollars in loans by our government to pay for college. For those who choose not to stay on campus, their apartments and cars are paid for. In many cases the extra money goes for booze, drugs and video games. The recruiters for the ...

No More, ever

Editor: April of each year brings together two related awareness campaigns: Victims of Crime and Sexual Assault. The theme for the 2017 Victims of Crime campaign is “Strength, Resilience, Justice.” For Sexual Assault month it is “Engaging New Voices.” Though these two campaigns are separate, their themes intertwine into a unified message: Victims cannot receive justice without the strength of the community. Victims cannot recover without our voices joining them in calling for justice. In other words, it takes all of us, working together, to bring about justice, healing and ...

A clear picture

Editor: “Ryan a convenient scapegoat for Trump’s failure.” Ridiculous. Many conservative journalists consider the failure of passing the American Health Care Act in the House of Representatives a failure of President Trump’s leadership. (See Jonah Goldberg’s column in your March 31 issue). However, President Trump placed the blame exactly where it belonged: the House Republican leadership and the “Freedom Caucus.” The defeat displayed what we have known for quite a while. The Republican Party, stronger than ever at the federal and state level, is simply not listening ...

Feet to the fire

Editor: So, we’re making America great again? Under the Republican health care proposal, 24 million Americans would lose their coverage by 2024, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Seniors and the poor would face much higher insurance premiums, limiting their ability to afford them. Under the proposal, the richest 2 percent in our country would receive $275 billion in tax cuts. The proposed defunding of Planned Parenthood would hurt low-and middle-income women who access that agency’s health care services. Worse, many Medicaid recipients would likely lose their ...

A turning point

Editor: The “Deep State Bureaucracy” is panicking in fear of eviction. Establishment politicians are gasping for air frantically flailing to keep their strongholds of power. They campaign pleading “send me to Washington to fix the problem.” Yet, once there they don’t fix it only to return to their districts campaigning once again “send me to Washington to fix the problem.” Enough is enough! President Trump is under assault by Socialist Progressive Democrats. They are unhinged in hysteria relentlessly engaging in political sabotage, intellectual dishonesty, hate, ...

Name calling

Editor: After reading Congressman Bill Johnson’s remarks at Saturday’s rally in Lisbon, I have only one word to say: Shame! Shame on Johnson for repeating the lie that certain Democrats didn’t stand and applaud when Carryn Owens was introduced during Trump’s speech to Congress. And shame on the rally attendees who either didn’t know it was a lie or more likely, didn’t care. Johnson is apparently taking his cue from the president and his nonstop lies and misleading statements, since Johnson went on to make misleading statements about the Stream Protection Act and the ...
