After reading Congressman Bill Johnson's remarks at Saturday's rally in Lisbon, I have only one word to say: Shame!
Shame on Johnson for repeating the lie that certain Democrats didn't stand and applaud when Carryn Owens was introduced during Trump's speech to Congress. And shame on the rally attendees who either didn't know it was a lie or more likely, didn't care.
Johnson is apparently taking his cue from the president and his nonstop lies and misleading statements, since Johnson went on to make misleading statements about the Stream Protection Act and the national debt.
Even his statement about "whiners" having had "their chance for the last eight years" is false: Republicans have controlled the House since 2010 and both houses of Congress since 2014; and their leadership publicly declared their intention to obstruct all legislation proposed by the Democrats. The one issue that Republicans have had almost eight years to accomplish is agree on health care reform, and they still haven't done it.
It is ironic that in the same issue of the Morning Journal that reported Johnson's parroting of false claims, an editorial praised Trump for using his speech to Congress to "extend an olive branch" to the Democrats, asking that both sides work together.
There's nothing that says cooperation and compromise like calling the people who disagree with you names, right Mr. Johnson?
